No more embarrassed than with any other president re: foreign policy. This country has sided with dictators and used countries as pawns for strategic gain for decades.

2/n @stuartbuck.bsky.social lays out a compelling case and identifies the key statute that makes what NIH is attempting to do ultra vires (Title II, Division H, Section 224 of Public Law 118-47). The plaint text of Section 224 forbids this type of adjustment. goodscience.substack.com/p/indirect-c...

You hold all the cards

That is like a comic book level theory of evil. It’s more just narcissism in the vein of moderation and experience being more appealing than brash youngsters.

That is nice lol. I like the poems/meditations you post fyi.

The answers are yes and yes.

Most major car makers have entered into private agreements with the state that supersede the waiver situation, so that is at least hopeful.

I am subscribed to both your newsletters :-) Though might need to take a break from Zeke’s only because I think I may not be the audience for it. Thank you so much for your work @katharinehayhoe.com.

How healthy would you say it is to keep up to date with these GMST projections? Paging @hausfath.bsky.social too. I feel like my mood is being highly tuned to these updates on global temps. Apologies for putting either of you in the role of a therapist.

Would this be a new feedback discovered/observed or just confirmation of one already known and in models to a degree? Would this be a human caused feedback? I guess it doesn’t matter…it’s there.

Misinterpreting science and spreading misinformation is kinda bad. Please just avoid it.

Yah it is pretty academic. He is one of the most respected climate scientists out there. Best leave the science to the scientists

Gavin Schmidt didn’t good write up of these results. He suggests you should not take them at face value. www.realclimate.org/index.php/ar...

Thank you for your paper. I’ve always wondered how scientists like yourself deal with results like this. Do they excite you, scare, both.

Is it correct to say most of record low albedo was regional? This a lot of record warming was regional too? Global means are obviously important as a grounding for models, but impacts and predictions are most meaningful at a regional level.

Wow, a little defensive and unwelcoming I must say.

I believe California has largely gotten around this by making private agreements with car manufacturers. Federal authorities can’t touch private agreements.

I like expressions of hope. The world is not the USA. We will become an energy pariah.

Take your time. I so very much appreciate your commentary. I want to look away and accept my fate, but people like you help with that nihilism.

Hello, I, a random follower of yours and fan encourages to keep up your amazing work and having hope.

I understand the sentiment, but I do think it will be hard to turn around the current energy transition. That being said, we need acceleration to meet the Paris goals. Not just standing still.

What a wonderful piece of writing. Was just struggling with this feeling of lack of agency. It was really leading me to despair. Thank you for this salve and clarion call.

It is tough reading through the litany of catastrophes staring us in the face. I am in awe by scientists like you who tirelessly chronicle our situation. Personally my mind is weak and still trying to find the strength to continue my life with joy and hope. I weep for a future I thought I had.

Dr. I so very much appreciate your voice. This type of stuff fills me with fear and paralyzes me. I feel like have put myself through a whole class on AMOC. Van Westen has a more recent pre-print that takes his idealized scenario and applies it to climate change forcing. arxiv.org/abs/2407.19909
