~ Conclave // Richard Harris ~ Picked due to award season hype and enjoyed it a lot. Incredibly detailed, which is fantastic, but can also be a tiny bit of a barrier if you know nothing about the Papacy going into it.

~ The Haunting of Hill House // Shirley Jackson ~~ The OG. I think that by today’s standards, it’s a little tame for what most people would think of when you say “supernatural horror”, but it’s still super enjoyable.

~ East of Eden // John Steinbeck ~ Meaty, but entirely enthralling. Read Of Mice and Men last year for the first time and wanted to read this off the back of it. Easy to see why it’s regarded so highly.

~ The Galton Case by Ross MacDonald ~ Surprisingly great. Detective noir from 1959. 8th in a series but totally works as a standalone book. Really, really enjoyed this.

~ Filterworld by Kyle Chayka ~ Interesting start. Interesting end. Huge lulls in between. Loved the concept - and I agree with loads of what Chayka argues - but it’s not conveyed in a consistently engaging way. Digging out my old iPod though.

~ Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky ~ Keeping the strong start going. Great science fiction, but I have to say; the title is awful and irrationally irritates me.

~ Clear by Carys Davies ~ Enjoyed this a lot. Short but sweet, really well written and hugely engaging. The strong start to 2025 continues.

It’s so heavily “I Think You Should Leave” coded, I love it.

After that first half I’d be astonished if we don’t concede 😅

Delighted that the disdain for Michael Stewart transcends all social media platforms.

I’m a big Dykes naysayer but he has his uses. Would like to see Conway brought on later though to see more of him linking with Doak.
