While the world is delaying decisions, almost every night in Ukraine turns into a horror that results in the loss of lives. Ukraine needs strengthened air defense.
We need strong and real decisions from our partners: the United States, Europe, all our partners who seek peace.

Is there any scope for an EU/China brokered deal? EU funds UKR reconstruction by China, China pressures Russia to peace, Russia gets an excuse to pull back, UKR gets EU membership & associated defence agreements. Plus China gets to make a peace where US failed - Peace Nobel for Xi?

I feared this from the moment Trump was elected - not just the US walking away, but also trying to force Europe to follow. Europe needs to stop preparing for a non-existent peace deal and prepare to stop Russia.

I almost think Ukraine would be better getting China to negotiate the peace. Xi would love to get one over on Trump by creating peace - and China have far more levers to use against Russia than Ukraine.

I want to start by pointing out a fundamental truth which somehow the "brains trust" of the trump regime and other Russian sympathisers seem to be unable to work out.
"Peace" deals don't work with Putin. Force does.
Hope you like my short essay - feel free to share.

Time for Canada to apply to join the French nuclear umbrella. Not even sure if I'm being sarcastic any more...

Nothing about the possibility of a Le Pen presidency and consequences of that? Worth considering before moving the nuclear eggs from one basket to another.

Good write-up. Europe is still wasting time coming up with peacekeeping troops that Putin will veto on day one. Where is the pressure from Europe for Trump to actually get on with the peace talks he keeps promising?

What happens if Le Pen wins the next election? Hopefully there is a plan for a more distributed nuclear capability in the long run, we can't all be holding out breath every French Presidential election.

Still haven't seen anything about the invite to peace talks that Ukraine refused, which you would have thought would be big news. Almost like the US is making capitulation a precondition for talks ...

Hey JD - you need to invite them first.

I've seen no sign that Ukraine has even been invited to peace talks - so how is Ukraine refusing to go to these non existent talks?

They should also 'privately signal' what they will give Ukraine in return. If they still plan to sell out Ukraine then .. uh no.

If Ukraine stops fighting Ukraine ceases to exist. If Russia stops fighting the war ends.

Can someone suggest on Twitter that maybe all the uranium has been stolen from one of their nuclear powerplants? I think Trump/Elon should go check in the reactors ..

For the first time in 50+ years I am glad that UK / France have vetoes on the UNSC. Until now it has seemed pretty pointless as we tend to just echo the US, but now Europe needs a voice.

4. Trump wants personal revenge on Zelenskyy for involvement in his first impeachment because he really is that petty / vengeful.
(but I really hope it is one of your three)

I would just be happy to hear the BBC read his words and then say "this is not true", rather than just leaving it as a statement of fact like Five Live News did ...

They're doing that 'mirroring' thing again where they ascribe their values to others

Trump approval < 47%. Zelenskyy at 52%. Jealous much Mr Trump?
