Last year I was debating changing my name but I think I'll wait.

I'm sure you're right. I'm also sure that doctor should lose his license.

He'll produce a fake physical but not his tax returns. Go figure.

The US has always struggled with hate groups. In fact, some historians assert the Protestants came to the new world cause they were kicked out for extremist views. Their self proclaimed "religious persecution" was a result of their own intolerance of others

"First they came for the trans people, so we nipped that shit in the bud right there; fucking fascists..."

If my doctor lied to me like that, I would be pissed and looking into malpractice!

I'm curious if they've learned how social media works yet?

Well, as long as they're using APA đź‘Ť

I was sceptical from the start. I said this technology is either useless, an offence against human creativity, or actively malicious. I was told to give it time, that it had its place, that it was just a tool and people would develop ways to use it ethically.
comment in response to post
If you don't train it on a database of stolen work, you sidestep one of the big ethical issues, but I still think if you use that to shortcut the creative process, you're cheating yourself.

I'm pleased to report, however, that my initial assessment was 100% correct and the technology has made the world objectively worse for literally everyone. It should never have existed, but since it does, no one should use it. If you do, you're siding with the enemy.

I got more liberal as I aged....because I read more of the Bible and took the "love your neighbor" and "feed the hungry" and "tend to the needy" and "make peace" and "bear one another's burdens" more and more seriously as not just personal sphere, but WIDER in scope: political.

Wait, are you suggesting that's not normal?

Because they only agree with ideas after they've been convinced they came up with it. Classic chauvinists

So a machine that thinks can never be a labour saving device. It's a monster

Had this conversation with someone of instagram, by thinking for you, generative AI doesn’t allow you to learn the fine art of bullshitting, and if you don’t have the ability to bullshit, you won’t recognize when someone’s feeding it to you.

It's also worth pointing out that it's not replacing thinking with better thinking, it's basically just replacing it with the top reddit result. That's not thinking and it's often so obviously wrong that any thinking person could never have drawn that wrong conclusion.
comment in response to post
You know what else can help you brainstorm ideas? OTHER PEOPLE! Try talking to a human every now and then. We're not all total assholes and actually enjoy conversation.

AI has just been so detrimental to our society in just a few years. Not even 5 years, NOT EVEN 5 YEARS, and its already doing harm to us like this...i just cant even with this thing.
comment in response to post
Also, pay attention to who is pushing this and in what context. Generative AI is not intended to make lives easier. It's intended to replace skilled labor so that the rich can buy a machine instead of paying a person. Without capitalism, this wouldn't even be a controversy.
comment in response to post
and the way it works to replace thinking is incredibly bad it is a souped up markov chain generator, it is a statistical model of what is the most likely continuation it has zero *zero* actual reasoning simulation, it is a machine made to provide plausible looking text. "hallucinations"
comment in response to post
because if you delgate your own THINKING to something else, to a machine that hallucinates information like telling you to put GLUE in your pizza, you're doing nothing but becoming a machine yourself. One that will be exploited by so many that seek to exploit you.

and this is why i get SO annoyed when i see WRITERS Go "well its good for brainstorming!it helps me overcome writer's block!" NO! YOU ARE TAKING A SHORTCUT FROM USING YOUR OWN BRAIN. USE YOUR OWN BRAIN. USE IT. THINK. THINKING IS A SKILL THAT MUST BE TRAINED, A MUSCLE THAT MUST BE EXERCISED.

TBF, the Internet nearly bankrupted proper journalism, and this is the direct result of that. When anyone with a cell phone or a laptop can broadcast to millions of followers without a single fact ✔️ it's no wonder

Maybe he'll change his mind, so he can look like the hero after he figures out a way to profit off it. Cause he clearly doesn't mind looking like a total idiot.

Also, I read about the outsized impacts of COVID on different races and job groups while it was happening and it made me MORE worried about COVID, not less.

Wait till you read The Age of Surveillance Capitalism. You'll never want to use the Internet again.

It is a season one episode so I'd give people a pass for not seeing it, but the show was never subtle about being left wing.

I keep wondering if I'm turning into a conspiracy nut, but just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you. Plus, isn't it only sane people who question their sanity? 🤔
comment in response to post
Yes and anyone using GenAI tools of any kind. Not only do they steal your data, they're using it to build predictive models to learn how to manipulate you. The info you see, what you don't see, and telling you what to think
