Literally Friday, my mom left her purse on a street and didn't realize until she got home that it was gone. She then received a message on LinkedIn from a young woman who had found it and looked her up. The woman wouldn't even accept a token reward: my mom got it back with everything intact.

Well that makes sense! I remember a friend calling it the smiliest propaganda ever made.

A decade-ish ago, I saw a North Korean film called Comrade Kim Goes Flying and I think that it featured exactly those lines of dialogue.

It's been fun following you and Gary Marcus as big tech speed runs this bubble at crypto rates.

Just finished Bury Your Gays (got it at the NYC tour stop) and had a great time with it! Looking forward to what's coming next.

A phenomenal companion piece to the Doug Walker video.

The only feature I really wish the Bluesky app had is a "Block User" button in that same menu as "Mute Thread" etc. Would be awesome to be able to do it without going to their profile.

About a decade ago, I saw a Japanese film which epically climaxed with the brave pilots we'd been following bombing Pearl Harbor. Pretty fascinating to see that event characterized that way. Bad movie tho.

I write names phonetically into my scripts so that I don't forget later on in the process. Has saved me a lot of heartache.

This feels like an extension of what you were talking about last year with Barbenheimer. You are way past egg cracking 101 or whatever but I, a cis person, come out of that with a new understanding.

That is the normal and correct response.

Like, I know it references John Wick and that comparison's the pitch, but that action feels only sorta like John Wick and feels extremely like The Raid.

I subscribe to both Criterion and Mubi (probably /blankcheck, actually) and it's interesting to see the different approach, because I think Criterion is looser (complimentary) in what they'll program. Could never imagine Mubi doing the Razzies, but basically anything Mubi has could be on Criterion.

Thirding Past Lives. I liked them all at least a bit but Past Lives made me cry.

I've been trying to sign up for the newsletter using the email generated for me by the Omnivore read it later app but I'm not getting the initial confirmation link... It worked until I accidentally unsubscribed from ghost instead of substance and hasn't gotten in since...

Maybe (hopefully) prepping a 4K release? It's the 75th anniversary this year and there's a 35mm run in NYC right now, so it seems like a good time for that.
