Neko Case we’ve seen in concert twice (and the New Pornographers four times), but Scritti Politti. I don’t believe I’ve ever heard anyone else talk about them. I still have the vinyl that I bought in the 80s of their album with their only US hit.

I’ll probably get a PS6 whenever it arrives, but honestly, at 59 years old I don’t know how many more gaming years I have in me.
(And there always seem to be innovative games coming out that I hadn’t expected to be. E.g., in the past year I played Immortality and both AI: The Somnium Files games.

I almost said that 7yo me would be disgusted at the number of socks, towels, and bars of soap I enthusiastically buy, but then I remember how happy I was buying soap when I was ~10.
(Then, as now, my name is germaphobe.)

I’d try any of their zero sugar flavors, though I doubt any will replace zero sugar cherry as my favorite.

I’m saved by my introvertedness. I don’t want to “chat” with anyone, so chatting with some rando is a no go.
(Plus, given the deets, sounds like a scammer.)

I used a Burley trailer when Evangeline was a toddler too.
I remember once I had to pick her up from Kinder Care in my car, and she started crying as soon as we stepped out of the building and she saw that the bike/trailer weren’t there.

I distinctly remember the Turf Valley Country Club being in the news for a racist incident when I moved to MD in the late 80s, and I found this article from back then (gift link). His dad sounds like a real winner. 👌🏻

I also like the Inquirer (Philly). It’s very local focused, but has some good national news coverage. (Plus Philly is my wife’s birthplace and she has a lot of relatives in the area.)
For local news to me, The Baltimore Banner was a great replacement once the fascist Sinclair owner bought the Sun.

The Guardian is great. And for those missing the (really) old Time or Newsweek, their mailed Guardian Weekly covers a lot of ground news-wise, and covers a sub to their website for regular daily news too.

I literally want to see it now. (And Apple TV+ continues to be the streaming network with the highest wheat-to-chaff ratio.)

The last 30 seconds or so of the posted track—“Hey, little bird”—is so beautiful it gives me goose bumps.

Not excusing them even if the particular quip was clever, but I can honestly say I’ve never seen one that was even remotely clever.

Have you ever tried their BLT? OMG.
*I had a heart attack—my very first—about three weeks ago, and had three Five Guys’ BLTs in the prior month. But remember: Correlation does not prove causation.

I always thought I was a weirdo for loving split pea soup, because nobody I know IRL even likes it.
I just had a heart attack a couple weeks back—stent now inserted—so I have to ask: What’s the sodium content on that delicious looking soup?

Richard Roeper has a 3-1/2 (of four) star review of a Yacht Rock documentary on HBO. It has this quote: “Director Price gets the reclusive Donald Fagen on the phone and explains the subject of his documentary, Fagen says, ‘Oh, Yacht Rock. Well, I’ll tell you what. Why don’t you go f- - - yourself?’”

The Pink Moon spot is incredible. Introduced me and a whole lot of others to the late, incredibly brilliant Nick Drake.
Plus the whole storyline and mood of the ad is awe inspiring. (Still never inspired me to buy a VW, though we do like that new electric VW van.)

The question would be if it’s in print at this time, but a used copy would certainly work.
Also, her Marianne trilogy is one of the best fantasy works I’ve ever read. It’s definitely out of print, but I think the used book prices for it have come down from when I paid $80 for the final volume.

I know you didn’t care for one of Sheri S. Tepper’s books, but her earlier “Grass” is one of the best sci-fi books I’ve ever read (and as far as I can remember is not post-apocalyptic and features neither of the things you mention). It also received basically a rave review from the NY Times.

Sometimes you just need to let things gestate. I remember writing the 1st page of a poli sci paper in college and thinking it was horrible. Let it sit for several days, re-read it, and thought, “Wow, this is pretty good.”
I’m sure I did some editing, but I finished the paper and ended up with an A.

And I had a heart attack just two weeks ago. Either of those events alone would have made it the worst month of my entire life.
(To be clear, the two events are probably unrelated, though there was certainly plenty of stress from the election that might have been a contributing factor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

Completely understand why anyone famous doesn’t follow-back everyone. They would never see what I posted anyway.
My most famous follow was that Allison Tolman followed me for many years on Twitter (until I quit it), and she followed me even though I wasn’t following her. I followed back, of course.

I don’t remember the actual names:
—Homer goes to clown college
—“Lisa needs braces” “Dental plan” (Strike at the nuclear plant)
—The nerds episode. (Homer causes a real meltdown with a simulator and has to go back to college)

Just to make sure any potential conflicts-of-interest are revealed, my wife also works for the Union of Concerned Scientists. My wife wouldn’t get any extra money no matter how many of you listened to Jess’s podcast, so my real conflict-of-interest is in promoting science and solving climate change.

*Literally the only plus side in this whole debacle.
