This is one big problem with these laws. If I am supposed to use women's rooms, then many many cis men can too, WAY more easily than having to convince someone they're trans women.

This will not be the first economic blackout or the last. But it's a place for new people to start, and for others to continue their boycott. Eat. The. Rich.

If you played TTRPGs between 1970-2004, PhD Candidate Geoffrey Ramirez (Binghamton U) is seeking participants for “Character Creation: The Tabletop Role-Players Oral History Project” as part of his dissertation. Interviews will be archived at the Strong Museum of Play (can be time-locked, etc)

If you are a cis person *please* take 2 minutes to do this. Trans people with non-updated gender markers, historical gender marker changes, and X markers are terrified to travel right now; rolling back this policy would mean a lot.

hello cis friends this is what people mean by trans genocide if a type of person does not officially exist, then any harm against them cannot be measured or reported this headline change isn't even being caused by an executive order it's simply the NYT editors deciding we don't deserve to exist

BBC just released damning research on AI assistants' news accuracy. Results: 51% of AI responses had significant issues. 19% introduced errors when citing BBC. 13% misquoted or made up BBC content entirely. 🤐🤐 www.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/... via @ezraeeman.bsky.social

If you want to show your opposition to banned books, please look on lists for *living authors*, particularly queer authors and authors of colour. John Steinbeck and Harper Lee don’t need your money. Living authors do.

As the world gets darker, we are all going to be looking for superheroes & librarians may seem like the perfect savior. But we are just people. Many of whom are just as bigoted & complicit with fascism. Give us support but remember that we are people. We can make mistakes. We’re also learning.

Musk is the living embodiment of AI: a broken, tech-bro tool that inserts itself into everyone's life unsolicited and makes everything worse.

This just weeks after a study showed that AI usage, especially among minors, encourages cognitive offloading and hampers critical thought. What a sad day for California higher education. AI is *plenty* accessible and teachable without this. We do not need massive contracts with OpenAI and big tech.

California DOE fires back against Trump's executive order: "It does nothing" "It is against federal law for the White House to dictate what educators can and cannot teach" Will not comply.

I get to moderate this panel, and I’m so excited!

If you went to college: 1. What was your career goal when you started? 2. Your initial major? 3. If you changed majors, what to? 4. What do you do now? 1. *shrug* writer? 2. English (creative writing) 3. Hospitality for a month, then back to English 4. Academic librarian

Ooh, CFPs open for one of my absolute favorite virtual conferences! If you have any interest in fandom and LIS, I recommend checking it out.

I can't stop thinking about these people risking their lives to save this city and the people in it who voted just a few months ago to keep them working in these unimaginable conditions

Call for Papers: #QueerAnalogGameStudies Special Issue @analoggamestudies.bsky.social “Analog games are here…but are they queer? What’s queer about analog games? What does it mean to queer tabletop, board games, or LARP? How might analog games be queered.” Essays due April 7, 2025

Can you present for 15 minutes on something relevant to libraries and video games? Submit a proposal! You do not have to be a library worker, but your presentation must be about video games and relevant to library spaces. #gaminginlibraries 📚🎲🎮

Dylan Roof killed 9 Black people with the motivation to incite a race war—NOT charged with terrorism. Luigi Mangione killed 1 CEO with the motivation to rebuke healthcare injustice—charged with terrorism. Class warfare is when working Black people are not a protected class but wealthy CEOs are.

If you know someone who is passionate about critical AI, data, or media & disinformation literacy, please share this call for (stipended) topic curators. We're especially keen to have high school teachers and librarians involved in the creation of this open educational resource! #oer #libraries

Oh, pre-ordered one for myself and one to gift my niece; I cannot *wait* to introduce her to Tortall!

Kickstarter is hiring for a Head of Games, Outreach (remote) position. They just posted the opening today. If you are passionate about crowdfunding and tabletop games, this is a good job to check out.

Don't. cross. the picket line.

The NYT has spent years pushing an anti-trans ideology. Trans people have actually lost rights in recent years, making them vulnerable to draconian laws and violence. Now the NYT says trans activitists are being a little too mean to transphobes online, and that's why their losing their rights.

Periodic reminder: a lot of what makes AI "work" is exploited people doing the tasks, just hidden behind fancy websites. It's good that a normie outlet like 60 Minutes is reporting on this.

📣 New zine!! "A Librarian Against AI; or, I Think AI Should Leave" is a 40-page zine about why we should think twice about using & supporting generative AI. violetbfox.info/against-ai/ #noAI #zines

As a writing studies person & academic (😬), I’ve honestly felt embarrassed & disappointed at how some teacher-scholars seem inclined to make peace w/ AI, trying to teach it rather than calling it out as fundamentally unethical. But here’s an article arguing for resistance & not giving an inch.

I can already feel that I’m overextending myself for spring-summer next year, but is that gonna stop me? Probably not. There are just too many cool things with games and podcasts coming up!

calling *all* full-time academic library/archive workers! could you take my survey to study why academic librarians of color stay in the profession in comparison to the wider population? I would really appreciate it! t.co/PqAd0AMMjx

yes, let's use the exact same technology currently being sued by the federal government for exacerbating the housing crisis by colluding to raise rents to investigate unemployment benefit appeals.

Submitted revisions for a fun, weird article about scholarly podcasting this week, and I can’t wait to see what the final product actually looks like.
