A cornucopia of Trichaptum abietinum (I think?) found on yesterday's walk. #funghifriends #mycology

Late to the game but I've started watching the second season of Temple. Why hasn't this man moved abroad yet

Beautiful conditions on Minninglow yesterday seeing some Bronze Age barrows and a Neolithic tomb.

Somebody mention Roman floor heating.....? [checks travel time from Bournemouth to Carlisle] #HypocaustGate

A short history thread today. Again we ventures to Houndkirk Moor to look for some more... 🪨 Milestones 🌇 Decoy town 📡 Abandoned radar station Conditions were the usual spooky fog 🧵

Today was a right nesh day 🥶

It's been awhile since I done one of my archaeology threads, so today I present you with: the Buckstone!

Spotted this funky structure in Stanage today. Surprisingly, it's a grouse drinking bowl from 1907. Each bowl had a number etched next to it so the landowner could track payment of bowls carved. Unsettling to think how grouse have had such an enduring impact on Stanage's environment and heritage.

Sad to hear of the further redundancies at Outside. Their features were some of my favourite reading of the outdoors; well-researched, strong storytelling, and always leading with an emotional connection. Swapping that for copy that exists solely to move users down a funnel is a tragedy.

Stone circles, hermit caves, ritual sites: my latest walk takes you through ancient Stanton Moor

Interesting research being unearthed in Dorset atm on matrilocal societies in iron age Britain www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Spent the evening helping my husband's grandma sort her old pottery. 30 years of playful, creative work hidden away, believing no one would care. Let Thelma’s pottery be a reminder: someone cherishes your creativity, no matter how "imperfect." In a world of uniformity, we need unique expression.

Morning rays warming up these flammulina #fungifriends #mycology

Mushroom experts, what type of fungi am I looking at here? I was thinking flammulina but not 💯 certain #funghifriends #mycologyuniverse

The beautiful red hue of the rocks near Gardom Edge in the Peak District. I tried sharing my enthusiasm with Tryfan, but he was more interested in someone's discarded lunch.

Some personal news: I was made redundant from UKClimbing as Editor-in-Chief after 10 years in the company. I'll continue my freelance journalism, but I'm also open to part/ full-time reporting/writing/editing opportunities and story tips. RTs/shares much appreciated. Thank you! www.natalie-berry.com

Beautiful day running through the heather on beeley moor

An extinct variety of rye was recovered from a shipwreck at the bottom of Lake Huron. Can scientists bring it back to life?

@righttoroam.bsky.social 's recent exploration of inaccessible monuments took me on a journey around the isolated sites near me. I ended up discovering some amazing local heritage, and it's only reaffirmed my belief that these sites shouldn't be cut-off from the public.

Hard to believe, but this paper mill was once a substantial area of industry for Hathersage. Not much remains but you can still find pockets of buildings amongst the bracken.

Frosty start to today's hike meant my walk felt more like ice skating at times - there is still a lot of ice in the Peaks atm! Paused for a breather at this beautiful spot - I always think this area would make a romantic backdrop for a film.

All I found in my house was old paint and haunted straw dolls www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This is great news. A step forward towards regenerating our temperate rainforests in the UK 🌳https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jan/29/thousands-of-trees-planted-in-devon-to-start-creation-of-celtic-rainforest
