Apparently JS has been around in Acrobat plugin form since 1996, and added to the PDF spec in 2006. At the time, it was viewed as a way to let users make PDFs more interactive and advanced. Nowadays, of course, I'd think it would be a massive attack surface for the bad guys.

Printing it wouldn't work. The code in the PDF relies on JavaScript support within the PDF engine. It only works on Chromium-based browsers at the moment.

My fiancée has one made by Ryobi which is more expensive, but uses the same rechargeable batteries as her other power tools. That’s also an option.

I got mine at Walmart for about that price. Comes with its own battery (rechargeable via USB), and can also run off a car 12V power jack.

The only sticky thing is that it’ll have to be renewed in 2027. But I have changed my birth certificate in the interim, which may help.
