Guys, I figured out the real reason Trump wants to annex Greenland: It's one of the few high(er)-income places in the world with a greater pre-capita firearm mortality rate than the United States. #Americanexceptionalism www.commonwealthfund.org/publications...

“I have stopped wars with tariffs by saying, ‘You guys want to fight, it’s great. But both of you are going to pay tariffs to the United States at 100 percent,’” Trump claimed on @MeetThePress. What wars, between which countries, and when? He did not say. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/10/u...

HELLO ATHENS!!!!

“Trump: Too Sexy for the Constitution?”

Is it normal for President's-elect to talk so often about all of the people they want to imprison?

Thou shalt not kill' also means 'thou shalt not let profit margins decide who lives and who dies.'

Sure, why not? www.semafor.com/article/12/0...

Higher standard than Trump tbh

Law Professor here: Luigi Mangione’s written confession will hurt his legal case.

Funny that rulers-for-life buy fleets of super-expensive cars but stash them in giant garages where they collect dust b/c they can't take them out for joyrides. Not standard luxury cars accessible to bourgeois consumers but "halo" rides like Maybachs, Bentleys, etc. www.cnn.com/2024/12/10/w...

Boy did I call that shit lmao

Yum yum. "The raw milk producer at the center of several bird-flu recalls says RFK Jr. has encouraged him to apply for a position at the FDA. "The recalls were the result of positive tests for H5N1 bird flu among his cows. His farms have since been quarantined...” www.latimes.com/environment/...

Absolutely true. Just like the constitutional imperative that insurrectionists can’t run for president.

Like when girls and young women repeatedly complained about Trump walking through their dressing rooms while they were mostly naked because he owned the pageants?

Syrians just opened up Assad’s presidential garage. This is what the Ba’ath Party’s Arab Socialism looks like.

The Trump campaign paid a law firm employing RFK Jr. $100,000 in the weeks after Jr. endorsed Trump. The campaign made *no* other payments to that firm during the 2023-24 election cycle. No parties involved responded to NBC News' requests for comment. www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

If Russia and Iran don't take Assad, maybe Tulsi Gabbard will.

Bolton: It's going to be very interesting to see what the files that may be uncovered in the Syrian government, if the rebels succeed in capturing Damascus, what they show about a number of Americans.

Seven weeks before resigning the Presidency, Richard Nixon and his wife Pat fly to Syria 1974 for a visit with President Hafez al-Assad and his family, including 8-year-old Bashar:

Rebel fighters say they have begun to enter the Damascus, less than two weeks into a surprise offensive that now threatens to collapse Assad's rule. Iranian officials say Syrian forces are withdrawing. Raja Abdulrahim Vivian Yee Aaron Boxerman www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12...

Genuinely hysterical that Trump is humiliating JD Vance by replacing him with the “First Buddy” Elon Musk.

As we gawk at the $250M Musk spent elect Trump, take a guess how long it took him to “earn” it back in the market? It took just 15 minutes. I'm not kidding... 15 minutes. According to Bloomberg, his net worth soared by $8B just today. That’s billionaire math for you—and it’s all of our problem.

To evaluate potential HHS hires, RFK Jr. is having people take a psychological test designed by . . . Jordan Peterson. Because of course. slate.com/life/2024/12...

Less than 30 minutes apart.

The Ba'ath Party of Bashar al Assad starts an autopsy to figure out what it did wrong and how to craft a better message.

Reports that Bashar al-Assad on plane to do Joe Rogan’s podcast in desperate attempt to save his regime

NEW: 🚨🚨 Elon Musk donated more than $250mn to Donald Trump’s election campaign, including at least $75mn in the final weeks before the vote, US electoral filings have revealed www.ft.com/content/5f96...

Trump's most worrisome-and revealing-statement of 2024 has been underrated: "the enemy from within, in my opinion, is more dangerous than China, Russia, and all these countries.” It's his mission statement for the new administration. my column: www.newyorker.com/news/letter-...

There are 14 BILLIONAIRES that are part of the second Trump administration

NEW: Assad faces an existential threat given the widespread collapse of regime forces and lack of sufficient external backing to bolster these forces. The Axis of Resistance’s support will almost certainly fail at this time unless larger ground forces are deployed rapidly. isw.pub/IranUpdate12...

This is one of the closest photo of Saturn ever taken.

Wouldn’t it be funny if this was the most LIKED photo on Bluesky?

The CEO’s assassin yesterday used a silencer. Murders with silencers have been rare. But the proliferation of silencers here in Fantasyland—that is, the U.S.—is staggering, quintupling since 2016 to 5 million. The gun industry’s silencer sales are approaching $1 billion a year.

Then again, Yoon and Trump may bond over sharing coup tips.

Imagine if we did this on January 7th

I think DeSantis would probably be okay as SecDef. He’s a jerk, but he’s not crazy. He’s a conventional guy; his problem as a GOP presidential candidate was that he couldn’t convincingly play a nut job on TV. But it’s sad that the best we can hope for these days is “not crazy.”

Contempt for women & desire to trap us as unpaid or low-paid domestic & reproductive servants unites massive coalitions of men across race, class, religion & nationality. It not only got Trump elected, but--as Jeff correctly notes--it's a *global* political project. Misogyny is anti-democracy.

Hey, remember the 90s when conservatives kvetched constantly about HRC's influence in policy-making, bc "no one elected her?" Helluva historical whiplash to see the GOP 30 yrs later cheering on not just an unelected illegal immigrant (Elon) influencing WH policy, but HIS MOM--HIS MOM--joining in.

A dramatic illustration of bitterly polarized politics and the deep societal discontent beneath the surface of its rising global might... NYT Alan Yuhas www.nytimes.com/2024/12/03/w...
