I'm his age, a retired attorney....and I've seen assholes like Trump at many points in my professional life -- completely self-absorbed, narcissistic, unwarranted ego, insecure, devoid of empathy, bullying, and, ultimately, no core belief system. The country is cooked for a long, long time....

This is definitely an ugly moment for the country. Keep standing tall, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez -- you're a hero to many of us.

History will not be kind to this crowd.....but, sadly, we're gonna have to wait for that day.

It's always been about the data. Ellison and his ilk see the world's population merely as a giant marketing opportunity. And, worse yet, the authoritarians of the world see this data as a means of control. Who are we to stand in their way, huh?

Pete for President!

Stephen knows....he's just trying to position his orange-faced boss to be willfully non-compliant, in order to set up a quick (and, probably favorable) Supreme Court review.

Trump's proposing ethnic cleansing.....

It's called an algorithm....and he used it to great effect as an X messaging tool in his nearly $300MM campaign contributions to Trump. Supreme Court says money is speech.....

Because he wants to show us just how special he is.

The 2026 congressional election season has begun -- it's clear that Democrats need an infusion of passionate leaders who will stand up and push back.

If this is actually determined to be legal, the country has now entered a very different kind of governance - in accelerated real time we're seeing the "Orbanization" of our democracy. Tragic does not begin to describe it.

The old guard is out of ideas, and the next generation of the party's leaders has yet to gel. AOC is an interesting voice, but she as yet speaks to only a thin slice of the party's constituency. My belief is that the new leaders will only emerge when Trump's policies actually bite the working class.

Agreed. The most devastating and disorienting fact is that American voters elected him again...this time with full awareness of who he really is. Trump is merely a symptom of something far more troubling and, as you state, that something will be with us well beyond the time that he leaves the scene.

Sadly, we have no choice -- he's just going to have to f it up and then, if we're just really, really lucky, we'll be able to still put things back together.

My bet is that we'll ultimately see that Musk's "X" algorithm was re-tuned to attract millions of disaffected voting-age youth, across the entire racial/gender spectrum. Looks like the best $2576MM investment he ever made for himself. Money, as this Supreme Court has ruled, is speech. Sad.

Of course they don't care.....they just want more and more money, and they know that, ultimately, it's a zero-sum game.

As someone who has actually WORKED in both the public and private sector (including product development in Silicon Valley), I can confidently say that you basically don't really understand what's going on in either sector. Finis.

Don't kid yourself.....that kind of data would be irresistably attractive to any politician.

A really, really bad idea. As much as I support the role of government, it's pretty clear that the kind of innovation that technology companies excel at is simply not feasible inside of a bureaucracy....

Well. Colombia did back down.....the hit to its economy would have been too much for it to deal with. But, backing down was not a sign of respect (as Trump claims, of course) ....but, rather, fear. And fear does not mean loyalty. Colombia will remember Trump's strong-arm tactics for a long time.....

Wait, what? So, the U.S. government will have access & ownership of all of that customer data, comments, etc.? What could possibly go wrong with that breach of privacy?

Yup....even more amazing is that a very large number of voters willingly handed them the keys. The rest of the world must be in dizzying shock, wondering what the hell happened to the United States that they thought they knew.
