“For me, it raises a fundamental question about Musk’s work, and I don’t think I’m alone in asking it. Is it what Musk is trying to do that makes me recoil — or is it the way in which he’s doing it?” My latest dispatch on DOGE… www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

LGBTQ federal workers say they're terrified they're about to be fired for their gender identity, sexual orientation, or past efforts to support other queer and trans employees—in other words, a second Lavender Scare. Honored to have their trust with this story: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Mitch McConnell on the Ukraine war: "Blame for this human catastrophe rests solely on Vladimir Putin … If Russian forces laid down their arms, Europe would be at peace. If Ukrainian forces laid down theirs, Putin's aims would not stop … Mistaking this fact is as embarrassing as it is costly."

The alarming order for the Clarksdale Press Register to remove an editorial the mayor didn't like shows why every state needs a strong anti-SLAPP law. I spoke to Editor & Publisher and Register publisher Wyatt Emmerich about the bizarre censorship case. www.editorandpublisher.com/stories/what...

“No one knows what we are supposed to do,” said one federal employee amid conflicting and shifting directives on whether to comply with Elon Musk’s directive to list five accomplishments.

So…a random thought. If you have people helping care for elderly parents who can’t care for themselves…check in more than you think you should. Something really really bad might have just happened…I wish it on no one.

UPDATE: We have a new schedule for the D.C. challenge to Trump's anti-trans military EO. First, DOJ is supposed to post the guidance on the docket. Then, the plaintiffs will file a new amended complaint and preliminary injunction request, DOJ will respond, and the hearing will be March 12.

Just catching up on this: "After a judge blocked a Trump exec order, Elon Musk shared a post with his more than 200 million followers on X that included the judge’s daughter’s name, photo & job, allegedly at the Dept of Education." Now he's also backing calls to impeach judges that rule against him.

I'd heard a rumor that DOGE had fired all the regional directors at SEC. Seems that rumor was pretty close to the mark. All told their jobs are being eliminated. (Remember, Musk despises the SEC.) www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...

LAPD Lt. Ensley was arrested in April for a DUI crash resulting in injury. When questioned by CHP after the crash, he said, "I didn't even know I got into a crash until you guys showed up." He said he was a 1 or "slightly buzzed" on a scale from 1 to 10. He blew over .15%

New op-ed out today! "We believe this rush to comply is a sign that universities are willing to become an institutional wing of the new segregationists." This op-ed was written with fierce love for our communities. That's who we serve. We will not be erased. www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...

New — HHS just got another email with guidance stating that they aren’t required to respond to the 5 bullets email, but if they do they should follow specific guidelines including: “Assume that what you write will be read by malign foreign actors and tailor your response accordingly.”

JUST IN: Judge McFadden has *denied* the AP’s emergency motion to restore its access to WH press pool events but has ordered expedited consideration of the matter given the weighty issues at the heart of it.

@newsjennifer.bsky.social on the gripping and impactful DOGE reporting by local news outlets: "It would be both ironic and so very American if the rich and powerful oligarchs were finally stopped by the underfunded newsrooms and working-class reporters." jenniferschulze.substack.com/p/local-news...

Much of the chaos of the past few weeks can be understood as part of the Trump administration’s “central ideological project: restoring America’s traditional hierarchies of race and gender,” @adamserwer.bsky.social writes. Call it the “Great Resegregation.”
