Oh fuck, what a grift. J6 terrorists sue a DOJ controlled by Trump; Trump orders DOJ lawyers to settle for an undisclosed amount, both sides agree to an NDA. This can happen dozens, hundreds of times. Just an ingenious way to funnel tax dollars to far-right terrorist groups.

Key document- Ukraine doesn't owe us a dime for their protection. We demanded they give up nuclear weapons after the breakup of the Soviet Union and in exchange we agreed to support them against any act of aggression.

Doesn't know what AI is, doesn't know what duplicitous means, doesn't know what the CDC does.

For some time now I’ve wanted to write an in-depth piece on immigration and deportation from the perspective of Catholic Social Teaching and moral theology. At last I’ve written this.

I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute. The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud. This was the right and only appropriate response.

i just typed in yellow jacket (local bar) to the parish (local venue) in on google, because i wanted to know how far apart those two places are, and instead google decided that was an aphorism and gave me an entirely fake definition of it i actually felt secondhand embarrassment for the computer

I'm normally cynical about politicians but this is statesmanship. It is affirming republican civic virtue. Not irony-poisoned snark, not focus-grouped talking points. The oath to the Constitution matters, and it's time to speak plainly and earnestly about how our fundamental principles are at stake.

I think tomorrow when I call Sen. Klobuchar, just to mix it up, I am going to ask if we can have an apology too

Man I am reading the Congressional Research Service's report on quorum calls and I'm DYING. For background: this is the nonpartisan research arm of the library of Congress so they never take firm stances. But the report makes SUPER explicit how effective the Senate delay tactics are.

Going to be quite frank, I do not find anything about this “king” stuff to be funny in any form, don’t think there’s a place for us to just crack wise about it and pretend it’s normal, yes we are all irony-poisoned but if we don’t draw a line here then we have no line

I know this isn’t going to win me any friends, but here goes: This was a crash involving two single-engine planes. This is not a rash of airliner crashes. This is a rash of people paying attention to non-airliner crashes they would otherwise ignore.

A lot of people now see that Musk is a vile extremist. But many still struggle to accept that he is also an oblivious fool. Once you actually listen to what he has to say about the world, you realize it’s all faux-visionary nonsense layered on top of profound ignorance.

While I'm at it and it's early, I'll also say that FAFO discourse doesn't feel good to me at all. I think that the people who will find out the most are the same people who are always finding out: the most marginalized. I also think that it destroys potential solidarity and solidarity is needed now.

That means they *can* bear it, by definition

This is *super important*. Cult exits are hard (and those leaving Trump are leaving a cult), and having those on the outside be like “you idiot” actually risks sending them back into the cult, and also needlessly adds to the pain/embarrassment they will be feeling. +

This is pure evil. I think this will be one of those things where people look back on it as what radicalized them.

I don’t know what to call this but flamboyantly evil.

I hope America is as lucky as the delta jet - everyone survives but the right wing explodes

Whatever else emerges in time about the Delta crash in Canada, one thing is certain: the importance & amazing professionalism of flight attendants who safely evacuated the plane in a matter of seconds.

DEI is OF GOD

I have three kids still at home; two homeschooled, and one in an MPS high school. two younger kids last night: “No fair, no fair, mom, we should get the day off for dangerous cold temperatures too.” me last night: no me now, wrapped in a blanket drinking coffee: I think they have a point

Even the most disturbing RFK Jr. headline always manages to have a detail inside creepier than you could have imagined. I’m sorry, did you just say Black kids should have a chance to get “re-parented”???? Gift link wapo.st/4hW2xGI

It is starting to look like federal departments have a chance to save many of their documents and websites if they deploy a small army of copy editors with good thesauruses.

The greatest political scandal today is not what Trump is doing. It is the fact that congressional Republicans have given up their role in the constitutional system as a check on the executive branch. If we are in a constitutional crisis, it is as much on Mike Johnson and John Thune as anyone else.

Also don’t let them lie: the lawsuit specifically asks the court to find section 504 unconstitutional. All of it.

*extremely Tweetie Pie voice* I tawt I taw a coup d'etat

“The Maryland National Guard must decline events which celebrates individuals based all or in part on immutable characteristics,” the memo said. Douglass was an abolitionist, suffragist, orator and author. That’s what we celebrate him. Let’s be clear: This bars celebrating him because he was Black.

I see. So what you’re telling me is we need to organize a grassroots, civil-rights-style mobilization of the people to fight for the restoration of the germ theory of disease.

Ooooh well played.

obviously this is terrible for democracy and the rule of law in America but I'm also offended on behalf of the prisoner's dilemma

As a threat to our civil liberties that doesn't live up to its anti-crime billing, ShotSpotter would be a worthy place to cut spending.

Damn, just learned I have to call Amy Klobuchar tomorrow and yell, I mean, be polite to her staffer while clearly explaining that I am NOT pleased with the Senator voting to confirm again

. @amyklobuchar.com if you're not up for the job, quit. But you cannot campaign on "this could be the end of democracy" and then act as if everything is normal. Either you're a liar or a coward. Pick one and then resign.

Popehat is a national treasure and also I am starting to get a little worried about him

Eventually the Adams case will trickle down to someone who will just follow orders and dismiss it. Make that person historically infamous. (Recall it was Robert Bork who eventually followed Nixon’s order to fire Archibald Cox)

Minnesota. This is really the crux of so many problems right now.
