WEDBUSH: “.. a jaw dropping reciprocal tariff chart that will be showed in classrooms and be written about for years to come by economists .. because they are so illogical and absurd.” [Ives]

If the first term was “malice tempered by incompetence”, then if the “ChatGPT generated tariffs” are any signal, this term will be “malice magnified by stupidity”

The United States is built on the freedom to criticize the government. Are we a democracy or an authoritarian regime? Under Trump and his Republican lackeys, we are a terrorist state built to shield “Dear Leader” from all truths and all opposition to his lies and malignant narcissism.

I'm 18. The economy enters a once-in-a-century recession. A Republican president is responsible. I'm 29. There is once-in-a-century pandemic that leads to a once-in-century-recession. A Republican is responsible. I'm 35. Tarriffs trigger a once-in-a-century recession. A Republican is responsible.

My latest in The Atlantic: There is a temptation to overhype or read too much into the results of off-year elections. In this case, I suggest we succumb. Yesterday, Wisconsin voters exposed, humiliated, and decisively rejected the world’s richest man. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

There are beacons of hope, fonts of wisdom, and organizers of action out there. We didn't win in Wisconsin by accident. The WisDems organize year-round, and they don't back down. They present a vision for the future, and they don't comply in advance. And they're winning.

…So let me get this straight: New Jersey is represented by legendary badass CORY BOOKER. While New York is stuck with Chuck “obey in advance” Schumer, and Pennsylvania has John “next Kyrsten Sinema” Fetterman. As regional rivalries go, that has really gotta sting.

The data don’t lie, America wants to fight back.

Can confirm this works. Years ago I had a landlord who suffered a sudden stroke. Long story. But suffice it to say, he and his caretakers had difficulty with social security. I called my congressman for them. They identified the problem and fixed it within days

Even if you accept the premise and decision, which I absolutely do not, it is the simplest thing to phone the visa holder, tell them their visa is revoked and say they have a month to leave the country. Accosting someone on the street like a kidnapping is just a spectacle of terror.

If Trump can disappear green card holders for protesting war, he can disappear you. If he can disappear visa holders for criticizing him, he can disappear you. If he can disappear asylum seekers for tattoos, he can disappear you. We must speak out now — before there is no one left to speak out.

“What if we added a woman with a facelift to holocaust footage” is truly the Trump aesthetic.

When this video was first texted to me, I assumed it was from Iran. The way she screams, she was wearing a hijab, and the way the law enforcement approached her—it looked no different from the way Islamic Republic authorities arrest women. It’s from Massachusetts, of course.

Seriously, though. Signal is my preferred chat platform and I admin a TON of group chats. The admin is lying, incompetent, or both, because how they're describing their own breach, is just not how anything works. Their excuses only reveal increasing levels of stupidity.

every person involved in this needs to be in prison

Tim Walz drew a (very) full house in Eau Claire, Wisconsin last night:

Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back. This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008. Also bigger than the 2024 DNC. And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).

Trump threatens to put American citizens on deportation flights to a slave prison in El Salvador

There is a direct line between US actions in Abu Ghraib, ICE's detentions of migrants, and now here with torturing legal US residents. This is why we must all vehemently oppose the use of torture, no matter who or where. And why we must oppose anyone who'd excuse or condone it.

They tortured him.

This was an historic failure of leadership. Indivisible groups across the country are meeting today to discuss next steps for accountability. Stay tuned.

The most vulnerable members of the Senate, like Jon Ossoff, are also clear nos on both cloture and the CR. You have calls from moderate Dems (e.g. Susan Rice) and moderate Republicans out of office (e.g. Kinzinger) to vote no. This isn't about the left. This isn't about vulnerable members.

Sending deepest condolences to Rep Grivalja's family and friends. May his memory be a blessing! www.cnn.com/2025/03/13/p...

Have the DOGE boys gotten around to cancelling a) a single weapons contract or b) a single Elon Musk contract?

Anyway, periodic reminder that congress can, and should, end this any time

the thing about “democrats should take popular cultural positions” is that what constitutes popular is a function of an interaction between the public and elites. if a faction of elites start screaming about a vulnerable minority and another faction says they have a point, this shapes the public.

So proud of Vermont today

If you have not won an election in a year that starts with a 2, I beg of you: Shut the fuck up.

this is a damn good way of putting the James Carville phenomenon in perspective

He nails it.

You never imagine the descent into despotism being quite this embarrassing, you know? You expect liberal democracy to fall to a Palpatine, not Biff Tannen.

Just a reminder that Nazi Nerd Elon Musk long has been and still remains a proponent of the Great Replacement Theory that motivated white supremacist massacres in Pittsburgh (2018), El Paso (2019) and Buffalo (2022). www.newsweek.com/great-replac...

no one ever banned the Associated Press from the White House for not saying "Latinx"

People who write about "this is the wrong fight to pick," never ever actually fight for anything. Feel free to ignore them.

🛟 That last-ditch chemo trial your family member was hoping to be in 🥙 The investigation of a food-borne illness outbreak in the next town over 🧠The study looking for preventable causes of Alzheimer’s 🧪The assurance that TAXPAYER-PAID-FOR studies & data collection see the light of day

Heads up folks. We can watch live on C-Span. www.c-span.org/event/house-... Thank you Rep. @jasmineforus.bsky.social.

Just awful: One of the inspector generals that Trump fired was examining Elon Musk's failures to meet reporting protocol designed to safeguard national security as a major recipient of Pentagon contracts. It's time to follow up on that. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/1913...

👇🏽🤔 💰

This is leadership. We have so little of this right now, but I think it's important to lift up where it actually exists

OK, here's that Constitutional Crisis we'd been yapping about... hoo boy.

Lord knows I’m not a constitutional scholar not even a lawyer (and I’ve yet to check in with @kateshaw.bsky.social) but a legal regime in which “you can do crimes if you’re buddies with the president or praise him publicly” is *on its face* a violation the equal protection of the laws.

To vote in the election to defeat Eric Adams you must register in the Democratic Party in NYC before Valentine’s Day vote.nyc/page/party-a...

Excuse me while I vent for a moment SHE IS THE APPROPRIATIONS CHAIR. SHE CAN SUBPOENA OFFICIALS, HOLD TELEVISED HEARINGS, HOLD UP ANYONE’S FUNDING, ZERO OUT THE WHITE HOUSE’S FUCKING ICE CREAM AND DIET COKE BUDGET, AND ENFORCE THE APPROPRIATIONS LAWS THAT ARE THE SOURCE OF HER PERSONAL POWER.
