This so directly out of the Nazi playbook. The very obvious plan is to get rid of the independent accreditors and put all universities under jurisdiction of the federal government. This is how Hitler took over German academia and made it a wing of his party.

I had a joke about The Thing, but it's been grim.

The same dudes who fetishize the supposed lost strength and competence of their forefathers want computers to write their emails for them.

Been traveling this week (mostly Pittsburgh) and the Garcia/El Salvador story is coming up all the time. Main topic at Dem town halls/campaign events, I'm overhearing people talking about it at cafes, etc. There's a DC CW that Dems should pivot to some issue that polls better. Not their choice imo

Basically: I don’t think people understand that 36 hours from now it’s possible that America will have a formalized system for abducting enemies of the regime and stashing them in foreign gulags, indefinitely. www.thebulwark.com/p/bukele-abr...

You don’t have to be particularly sharp to decipher the code here. But if you need someone to say it, this is a major technology company and a sizable defense and intelligence contractor publicly declaring, with only the thinnest patina of deniability, that its cause is white nationalism.

This piece is a bit bleak, but it's a banger. If we are to meet our critical moment in history, we need to reckon with the reality that we are not up against adversaries we have seen before. We are up against end times fascism. 🧵 www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

People are mad but you have to admit this is a genuinely hilarious headline/image combo

What we are seeing is a purge—of the administrative state, of the universities, of expertise—that is consistent with events like the Cultural Revolution in China in the 1960s and ’70s, or the dismantling of the tsarist civil service after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917.

"Like Amazon, but with human beings."

I think it's very important to note that when you want to run human misery like a business--a business based on rounding up people to ship them to a country they aren't from to work in forced labor camps--you're a slaver. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

“This is not what we voted for.” Yes, yes, it is. You just didn’t think it could destroy you, too.

What makes this visual even more stunning is that it was made possible by people who said their #1 concern when voting was the economy. What idiots.

😂 Sherrill Introduces Bill to Require Elon Musk to Pass Drug Test to Maintain Special Government Employee Status No one man should be given this much power, let alone an unelected, K-hole diving, un-American, ketamine dream, idiot, Nazi.

The question of if a country could fuck itself harder than the UK did with Brexit has today been answered.

"I don't want a Disney vacation of our history! I don't a whitewashed history, I don't want a homogenized history. Tell me the wretched truth about America, because that speaks to our greatness" -- 20 hours into his speech, Cory Booker is spitting absolute 🔥

What might be more evil than celebrating the decline of a stock price? www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

I keep seeing this in my timeline and keep being struck by the guy whose all-consuming current project is the destruction of essential services experiencing moral revulsion at the idea that someone would be happy about a stock price going down.

If you are a fan of Lux Interior & Poison Ivy of The Cramps you may already have this, but I wanted to share. A group collected as many as they could - songs that Lux & Ivy mention in interviews or whatever which came out to over 600 tracks, that I put in a Gdrive folder. Patty Heffley (Ph.) Link ↓

there's gotta be some ironclad law of PR where "as he defends his podcast" being in a headline automatically ends your career

This is an excellent thread about usability, software design, AI tools, and the often-misguided quest for frictionless experiences.

It's always a good day to remember that literally every Confederate general was literally a traitor.

outright vote buying

Sending a Russian dissent back to Russia to be tortured and/or killed perfectly encapsulates this loathsome administration’s lack of American values.

The lack of empathy in the Trump administration is almost impossible to believe. And yet here they are.

American civil society is full of abject cowards, that is the issue. The government is a mafia state but it is winning because most American elite institutions are devoid of anything resembling integrity and are folding rather than stand on principles that were little more than marketing.

Every day it becomes clearer and clearer that one of the Trump administration's objectives is a great resegregation of American life. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

When I wrote my camps book, people sometimes had difficulty understanding how concentration-camp regimes were proud of what they were doing and wanted attention for it, even as they also hoped to keep many aspects secret and terrorize vulnerable classes. Anyway, this is what that looks like.

The subtle thing I love about this gruesome photo is that Musk is in sharp focus and Trump is not. As if the photographer knows who has the power here.

A lot of people who got the measles as children died or suffered lifelong disabilities as a result. The measles vaccine was a godsend to worldwide public health, and it’s an absolute scandal that this lethally ignorant dolt has any power over public health.

Hey, take him up on it! The copy I ordered arrived last week and I am enjoying it. And I GUARANTEE you'll like the bonus book that's included.

“In the land of the attention economy, the malignant narcissist is king.” Atomic designer Brad Frost turns his down-to-earth, no-bullshit attention to where we find ourselves after ten years of relentless battering. Great read. bradfrost.com/blog/post/pa...

If Democrats had the Republicans' messaging discipline, "President Musk" and "Vice President Trump" is all you'd hear.

This is the look of someone who is starting to realize he’s gotten in too deep shit and might lose everything, but whose ego won’t let him back out, and who is also realizing that the one thing he desires the most is to be liked, is never going to happen.

This is a first. Today, the most powerful man in the White House is saying OUT LOUD he wants to "ELIMINATE" Social Security and Medicare. Eliminate. Not "cut," not "reduce." Not even raise the retirement age. ELIMINATE. Sit on that for a minute. This is your money.
