Her first name was Grace, in case you didn't want to call her Grandma!

As opposed to our two, who are lazily staring at it and hoping it goes by itself.

I'm sure the submariners appreciate that.

While with Cleveland, he managed to execute the rarest play in baseball history: the unassisted triple play. sabr.org/gamesproj/ga...

Here's the second (of three) in that series of blotters. I haven't been able to find the third one yet.

Consider going international: The Economist and The Guardian both cover the US. Also consider substacks from The Contrarian and LawDork.

Thanks for the reminder. I never fail to visit it when I'm in the building (also, I'm in awe of the curators who have to maintain it, and actually moved it within the building).

alibris for books, for one.

Ah, yes, a great portrait of a less-than-great president. Supposedly I'm descended from one of his nephews, so we sponsored the portrait (figuring no one else would!)

He's been playing well in the Dominican Winter League since then--he's been the captain of the Licey team, and doing well at the plate (.291).

And is remembered for annoying Mike Rizzo by insisting on going to arbitration "just to see how it worked." Lesson: annoying Rizzo by wasting his time is a bad plan.

And here's the SABR story about its first use in a major league game! sabr.org/gamesproj/ga...

Should we book our B & B in Cooperstown now, or wait until the first one of them gets hurt and calls it quits?

He performed the ads himself, including slicing the bananas onto the cereal!

I'm going for the Savannah Bananas--free on YouTube, and funnier that most of the SB commercials.

He was a "baseball friend" from Florida. He and his dog passed away recently of natural causes (separate events that I just became aware of).

We are a donor at a level that gives us free parking on the hill near the entrance and access to the Encore Circle. And we very much think that is worth it (and have for many years). At a lower level, not sure whether that would be worth it or not.

Hear, hear. I've raised that already with SABR, and apparently there isn't enough traffic here (although maybe that's a chicken & egg issue?). I'd go with the "build it and they will come" approach. That's baseball, right?

Persistence matters. Sometimes you don't want to get out there, but I've never come back afterwards and thought "nah, should have stayed on the couch." Now, if it would just warm up enough so I could trade the treadmill for the streets . . .

Hey, I was just excited to be able to get out there now that enough snow has been removed (or melted). Took a longer-than-usual route to detour around some ice, but got in a happy 52 minutes.

Thanks for letting me know about how to require Alt Text.

Mike, this one really belongs in SABR's Game Story Project. Would you be interested in working with me to see that happen, or doing it yourself? (Your "work" would consist of allowing me to write from your story in return for giving you co-author credit). Sample of my work: sabr.org/gamesproj/ga...

A. I was at that game. I was supposed to do the laundry before my spouse got back from Alabama, but I barely made it home before she did! B. Here's that baseball. I ducked out of work early the next day to get to the park to buy it! C. I wrote that game for SABR, too.

Brown eye, Blue eye, Black eye: here's that game story I wrote for SABR! sabr.org/gamesproj/ga...

I was at his first game! Wrote the story for SABR. (Spoiler alert: he hit the first pitch he saw for a home run . . . and hasn't hit another one yet in 17 years of pro ball!) sabr.org/gamesproj/ga...

Pancake. (with syrup and butter, but I think Pancake makes a better name than syrup, and he doesn't look like a "butter").

Apparently that three-year trial was timed by the same folks who timed Gilligan's three-hour cruise.

How timely! I'm about to post a Tom Seaver story just published at SABR Game Stories.

I got a box too! Looks perfect for tomorrow's dinner's roasted potatoes! Sprinkle liberally! (Also shipping box is perfectly cat-sized).

I missed seeing him in the Dominican League this (2024-5) year. But watching him there last season, it did look as if he might be approaching the end of his career.

How freaking sensible of you! Is that allowed?

11. Connect with nature (birdwatching and/or gardens in passing). And how else are you going to get cussed out by a territorial squirrel or come face-to-face with the neighborhood fox?

I think I’m good. The guy from Home Town on HGTV looks like he could handle almost anyone.

🙋🏼‍♀️waves hand frantically at SABR. Is that a “chicken or egg first” situation? If SABR moves from X to here, and announces the move, wouldn’t the activity follow?
