Both sides of my family were on the Westside. Around w54 and Bridge.
I grew up in Lakewood, which (at the time) was very Slovenian. I have a lot of wonderful memories filled with delicious food because of it.

My maternal side is from Italy and paternal side from Eastern Europe AND I grew up in Cleveland! Where did your in-laws live in the city?

I couldn’t agree more. We should concentrate more on paleography. Actually taking the time to learn how to read old handwriting and text is more important than doing something quickly with AI.

Yes! I have multiple maiden names for one of my g-grandma’s. Kurek or Gurek. And then there were her cousins who changed their name to Kirk.

The story about her “thirst” is pretty funny, but it also makes me wonder if the author of the article has letters or a diary. Have you reached out to the historical society?
It’s so difficult with women. It’s sad how little was recorded about them.

I feel this in my soul. Researching female ancestors can be so frustrating. Thank you for the link!

It really is. I don’t mind. I love the hunt! In the end I’m just happy to learn anything.

I feel the same way about my family history. I have a full line I know very little about because of a similar situation. My great grandmother died in her late 30s & the family also fell apart. I’m still peacing things together but it’s difficult due to WWII & other circumstances.

What an incredible and sad story. It’s so amazing how one moment can change the entire world.
Have you been able to document the journey of the family after they were farmed out?

He’s also fun to lookup in newspapers. I wound an article once where he was bringing a wounded many back to town. The guy tried to run away, which is how he ended up wounded.
