WSJ's analysis of the fraudulent claims about savings that DOGE is making comes to similar conclusions NPR did earlier: $2.6B v $2B of real savings. But it also notes how much of the cuts are research focused. It also notes that JUST 2% would go to DEI. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

I am grateful that so many people found my open letter to Elon Musk moving and want to share it. Some well meaning people are just cutting and pasting it on their social media feeds. I would appreciate it if people would link to the version posted on @democracydocket.com instead. Thanks. Marc

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

About that 4.7 trillion and TAS code that supposedly Treasury has taken care of now applauded by Elon Musk and DOGE Looks like it was taken care of in 2024 under Biden www.fiscal.treasury.gov/cars/treasur...

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

Want to control what the US spends it's money on? Have Congress pass a spending bill and sign that into law. That's it, that's the Constitution. You can't pick and choose what you don't like about laws that passed before.

Current pop country music captures the movement of the right. Hardly any singing about poverty, relationships, or making one’s way in a tough world, but countless songs that go like “I don’t give a fuck if you hate my fifty thousand dollar truck.” No one even knew about your truck bro, relax

Here’s a (very long) fact sheet on the Biden Administration’s record of accomplishments. Please feel free to share this ahead of his Farewell Address to the Nation from the Oval Office tonight at 8 pm EST. 🇺🇸

I'm sorry but the Dems are ridiculously bad at their Hegspeth questions. IMO, if you want to prove someone is incompetent, you ask them the hardest strategic questions they will have to know to succeed at the job

Walgreens CEO says anti-shoplifting strategy backfired: ‘When you lock things up…you don’t sell as many of them’

You will read countless times today that the LA mayor cut the LA Fire Department's budget by $23 million. That is a lie. The budget was actually *increased* by $50 million.

These extraordinary photos of the LA fires have been shared widely on social media, often without crediting the photographer. These are all the work of Ethan Swope, an LA-based photojournalist working for AP. You can follow his remarkable reporting here👇 www.instagram.com/ethanswopeph...

Jessica: There is a story that there was $17 million cut from the fire budget and that is inaccurate. The budget had an extra $17 million because they bought one off expenses. Respiratory protection for firefighters. There’s an extra $50 million set aside for the fire department

I lived in a town with a Butterball factory. I saw raids in the 90s with Feds coming in and leaving town with van loads of undocumented workers. You know what I never saw? The Feds arresting the folks who hired undocumented workers…

Carter had solar panels installed on the White House. Reagan took them down. It was one of the first examples of one political party embracing technology and a clean energy future and the other appearing to get joy out of dragging their knuckles along the ground in order to hurt our planet.

In 1979, Jimmy Carter had solar panels installed at the White House. Ronald Reagan had them removed. We may be able to trace back the current "Do Harmful Things if it Trolls the Libs" Republicanism to Reagan removing those panels the far more forward thinking Carter had installed.

Wow, I never knew he said this. Jimmy Carter was ahead of his time—a man of unmatched kindness and integrity. Truly, he was too good for us.

31 December 1995. Still the perfect goodbye.

The alleviation of women's abuse "is made less likely by the mandated subservience of women by Christian fundamentalists. What is especially disappointing...is the docile acceptance by so many strong Christian women of their subjugation & restricted role." - Jimmy Carter (RIP)

I would love to see a bunch of musical artists and celebrities put on a nationally televised tribute concert for Pres. Jimmy Carter on inauguration day with all proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.

Breaking: Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the US, has died, the Washington Post reported. He was 100

"In this sea of opinion/bullshit, people today are much less likely to hit upon genuine information than they were 30 years ago. This bedrock fact means that they’ve become acclimated to relying on opinion/bullshit."

Missouri funds schools in the most inequitable way…only 32% of funding comes from the state. The rest must come from local taxes, which is why schools in the city have massive performing arts centers and million dollar football fields, and schools in the country don’t have science labs.

Costco responded to shareholders requesting that it withdraw from DEI policies. The response was direct and to the point: Costco says, "Our board has considered this proposal and believes that our commitment to an enterprise rooted in respect & inclusion is appropriate & necessary." ❤️COSTCO♥️

Happy birthday Jesus

A fair question.

What a strange headline for a story that notes: 1. 2,169 ballots were rejected for no ID. 2. "The voter ID law disproportionately hindered Democrats." 3. "The evidence overwhelmingly shows" that fraud "is essentially nonexistent." 4. The state Supreme Court race was decided by only 625 votes.

Last year, when I was at MSNBC, I did a 10-minute deep-dive into RFK Jr's anti-vaxxer role in the measles outbreak that killed dozens and dozens of kids in Samoa. I hope every Senator voting in his confirmation process for HHS knows about this crucial and awful story:

Sri Lanka tried RFK Jr.'s food plan, and it was catastrophic. Productivity plummeted, causing food shortages, skyrocketing prices, lost exports, and an economic collapse. Farmers faced huge losses, forcing the government to reverse the ban and import costly emergency food.
