this is cursed

Adam Mosseri is the man responsible for what has become of Instagram and it is my mission to make sure he does not escape history without being held accountable

Folks going to rightly call out the BS on the "bad precedent" stuff here--there's plenty of precedent of corrupt pardons, it's pervasive--but the bit that really weirds me out here is the "Pater familias" stuff. That's not what the President is. It's not what you should want him to be.

Trump as a mob boss is such a good analogy because he invites people into the family if they can do business, but being a made man in MAGA takes a genuine show of loyalty, and above all, he's the boss and if you want to take over or run the place without him, you're the Joe Pesci

"This is setting a very bad precedent for Trump to follow" dude you have fish tank gravel in your head

Straight up I think they think he's going to come after some of their colleagues– not them– and it's going to be a dope story

really this mentality was especially unsuited for the political arena, as a broad cross section of voters absolutely despise seeing politicians apologize for anything - especially men

Anyone worried about the precedent this sets is missing the forest for the trees; Trump was going to do what he was going to do regardless of precedent, the GOP was going to defend it regardless of precedent, and the voters weren't going to care regardless.

I continue to propound the One Ring theory of Donald Trump. Everyone thinks they can manipulate him, use him as a weapon for their cause. There is a long string of dead bodies and twisted shells who can attest that this is not the case, the Precious will betray you

I'm not sure if the media has ever been less equipped for the task at hand.

Shouts to the Bills fan who tried to knock down the 49ers FG attempt with a snowball

actually insane how differently the pardon would be covered if trump pardoned one of his children

The lack of self-awareness is almost impressive.

pundits' obsession with *normal* political order in 2024 is like being in a post apocalyptic world where the only food source is radioactive cockroaches, and their first question is "are these gluten free?"

I think I am just completely done with giving a shit about “norms” if people think the pardon power is abusive then change it, that’s fine, whatever, but if everyone is going to hold one party to a standard and the other to no standard at all then fuck your standard and fuck you

i would also pardon my son in the face of a campaign of indiscriminate revenge carried out with the acquiescence of reactionary federal courts

pundits still think there's a constitutional legal order they can return to

what in god's name could "blood in the water" mean here? trump has won the election. he did tons of corrupt pardons already and has explicitly ran on pardoning his insurrectionist mob. "blood in the water". gmafb. log off twitter, it's rotting your brain.

He already promised to pardon them day 1 during the campaign. He didn’t need this excuse to do it and it doesn’t change the calculus an iota.

These perspectives do a fantastic job in illustrating why we keep losing. Stop pretending like our values matter to voters or give Trump cover. They don't. The only thing that matters is if we have friendly media to defend it. Values vs. rampant corruption was just on the ballot. Values lost.

This is cute. As if no one remembers the election in which Trump's pardons for his Coffee Boy, NSA, campaign manager, other campaign manager, and rat-fucker -- four of whom lied to help cover up what happened with Russia in 2016, the fifth who helped kick off an insurrection -- never came up.

trump can install multiple family members as staff members, appoint nominees who aim to destroy the government from the inside out, and lead an insurrection, all of which are forgotten. biden pardons his son from a pretty unjustifiably aggressive prosecution and everyone loses their minds

This is going to be evergreen for the next few years, isn't it?

Both in the schoolyard and in the halls of power a common bullying technique is abusing someone and then using the reaction to the bullying - especially if it's somehow imperfect - as retroactive justification for the abuse

it’s good that biden will pardon his son. it’s the first thing he’s done in months that hasn’t been totally feckless. he just needs to the same for thousands of others who deserve it.

Twitter is extremely creepy these days because 90% of the responses are bots and it’s not exactly clear why. Usually it’s not even political, it’s not selling anything, it’s just bots pretending to be people. The vibe is like boarding a city bus and realizing none of the passengers have faces

wonder if people said the same thing about MySpace

The Law & Order: SVU episode based on the pedophilia/child sex trafficking investigation into Congressman Matt Gaetz is: Season 23: Ep. 2 Writers even name-check Gaetz and the actor resembles, even behaves like our real-life goofy ass human frat paddle Congressman turned Trump AG nominee. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

Some woman on Twitter posted an extremely innocuous ‘defended! I’m #PhDone!’ tweet with a pic and the place is going fucking feral attacking her because the title is a little obtuse/technical and I sometimes uncharitably wonder how much education polarization is just basically resentment.

Bernie when woman: "I WILL PERSONALLY RUIN YOUR CAREER UNLESS YOU ADOPT MY SPECIFIC BRAND OF LATE '60S NEW ENGLAND LABOR POLITICS" Bernie when a drug-addled Nazi billionaire loudly misunderstands the DOD: "gaiz let's hear him out he makes some good points 🥺"

Found this random screencap of Big Bird looking like he's about to address the allegations.

the other side of fight is that you cannot spend 8 years going "this guy is an existential threat to everything we gotta make him lose oh we lost yeah everythings normal gonna work with him I guess" no matter how disengaged a voter this comes across as a level of bullshit that nobody has time for

Millions of Americans will think this is part of TrumpCare or MAHA

Democrats: “We’re excited to work with Donald Trump on his agenda” Donald Trump: “I’m going to turn the FBI into the Gestapo and put Democrats in jail”

Has any major media outlet accurately described the attack on links in Twitter and Instagram/Threads as censorship? Or does that word only get used when advancing lies by the right?

the major problem here is that no one really understands what it does well or doesn't. e.g., Claude can beat the Gostak (if it can figure out that it can use the raskable glaud to corral the pilter into leiling the glaud of jenth) but can't tell you how many Rs there are in strawberry.
