Always read @michaelharriot.bsky.social, who is in increasingly grave danger of becoming a bona fide national treasure. 🫡

Remember when Donald Trump invented Noah's Ark to save all the animals?

Methinks "unnamed staffer" is gonna have a monumentally bad 4 years.

Not many actual "must reads" show up in my inbox. This one's a welcome exception. Highest recommendation!

my therapist & I talked today about how much of a balm @mskellymhayes.bsky.social’s newsletter is 💗

If fighting against the privatization of the post office is your lane, NOW is an excellent time to plug in. Facilitate a teach in about the USPS in your communities. Thanks to @deborahrosereeves.bsky.social Everything you need to do it is here: usps-teach-in.carrd.co

A few years ago I visited the National Museum of African American History & Culture with my grandparents. When we stepped out of the building my grandmother kept repeating the words “I lived it. I lived it. I lived it.” She’s still here. That history is still in her bones. You can never erase that.

Their attorneys cannot find them. Immigration rights advocates cannot reach them. They exist now as detached from America and the loved ones they were forcibly, and suddenly, separated from.

“I need help for my father,” his 9-year-old son, who has learned English in the United States, told the Herald over audio messages. “My father is very nice with me.... My father is not bad people. My father is very, very good people.”

Could @bandcamp.com please make user-defined playlists available in desktop mode? I often stream some of my Bandcamp purchases through my work computer, but it's frustrating to have to pick out the albums one-by-one instead of just selecting one of my playlists. Thanks!

Getting frosty now in US universities

This guy is in one of the worst prisons in the world with no way out and may spend the rest of his life there because, it appears, he has an autism awareness tattoo in honor of his little brother. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

You as a single individual DO NOT have to "keep up" with ALL of the information of every single thing happening across the entire world daily. You don't because it's impossible. Focus on a couple of things and act on those things. Don't feel ashamed that you are doing that.

everyone needs to understand this

More than a dozen groups tied to conservative “friend of the court” Leonard Leo filed legal briefs pushing SCOTUS to further gut the government’s power to take on corporations. www.levernews.com/a-dark-money...

Incompetence is not a bug of authoritarianism, it's a feature. The goal of authoritarianism is to avoid any & all consequences. And this by definition insulates incompetence from being ferreted out. Also, the suck ups get elevated over the competent folks. Competence simply isn't a qualification.

Israeli settlers beat up Hamdan Ballal, one of the Palestinian co-directors of the documentary film No Other Land, in the occupied West Bank, according to witnesses. He was then detained by the Israeli military.

My latest for @motherjones.com with @maandrei.bsky.social.

"Who needs vegetables when you’ve got lobbyists?"

Rodney Taylor is a beloved Georgia barber who came to the United States from Liberia with his mother when he was only two years old. He applied for citizenship but was denied. But this year, ICE arrested him, locked him up, and has scheduled him to be deported to a faraway country he's never known.

“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”

Also, my nephew filled this truck up with dirt for you.

Zuck said Meta is in a "partnership" with White House; Google is following suit. They are all that stand between you and Trump admin data grabs. Here's a resource collection of non-US services to replace email, search, docs, music, video, backups, and more: www.wired.com/story/trump-...

I chuckled listening to Ben Rhodes talk about "social movements" being the thing most needed now. These are people who have had COMPLETE contempt for movements over the years. ALSO he doesn't even know what *movements* are or entail. Soon, we'll hear the POD BROS using the same language.

"sir a second strongly worded letter has hit the coup base"

Not sure if any of these will count as an upset. 😅 (Highly recommended!)

Live shot of literally all of America.

Coalition building is not the same as pandering to people's worst bigotries in the hopes they'll like you.

Important point from @ruthbenghiat.bsky.social on the arrest Turkey's opposition leader: Autocrats everywhere are becoming more emboldened because they know that they will encounter no real consequences from the Trump-Musk administration for their aggressions. open.substack.com/pub/lucid/p/...
