House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt 🧵on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT

If you have a device that CAN run Apple Intelligence you need to turn this off as well as the general Apple Intelligence setting. Settings > Screen Time > scroll down to Content and Privacy > turn on Restrictions > Intelligence and Siri > turn off the first three options

We just got through a three-hour delay on the road from Cancun to Tulum by going the wrong way up the highway and getting back onto the right side through a construction site via a ramp of concrete chunks over the median and I want to stress that we did not come up this, it was the official plan

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

The biggest fans of my uterus tattoo, after other repro people, continue to be TSA. Which is gratifying, because they see a lot of tattoos.

i think it is cool that de facto first consul of the united states is a drug-addled maniac and deadbeat dad with a breeding fetish

A lot of people I respect are like “welcome disillusioned Trump voters rather than abusing them, we need everyone we can get, and not letting people change is fascist ideology” They’re absolutely right and I’m glad they’re saying it, because I personally will not be doing that and someone should.

NEW: Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to ProPublica’s first-of-its-kind analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%. https://propub.li/43487Tj

The Presidio is stunningly beautiful, a jewel of an urban National Park, and not incidentally has a large military cemetery with an incredible view. I assume he plans to put a golf course on it.

🦊 Friday was my last day working at 18F. It was a team of extraordinary people, but a few things happened that made me realize I had to leave. Everything happens so much these days, so I thought I’d write down for myself what happened, and how I made my decision: ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/leavin...

Planes are crashing because Trump and Musk wanted to cut their own taxes even more. Say it over and over and over again until it sinks into people's brains and they correctly associate every crash with two billionaires who never fly commercial.

I keep saying this but... if you live in a big city and want to fight fascism, questioning what your mayor and cops are doing to unhoused people is an *excellent* start. Criminalizing people who have nothing is how nice urban liberals do fascism.

Got my IUD replaced today and the provider wouldn’t let me take the old one home and I’m still mad about it despite having three others knocking around here somewhere.

New from me — “What it comes down to is the removal of choice, especially when it comes to established health care. People should not have to suffer the anguish of being denied life-saving drugs because a couple of guys have decided to apply conspiracy theories instead of established science.”

This is a good idea. A daily Democratic press conference with a consistent, skilled spokesperson who covers two things: 1. What DOGE and the Trump administration did to the American people today 2. What Democrats are doing in response

Me reading about the SAVE act: well I’m glad I didn’t change my name when I got married My dumb ass *just* remembered that I changed my last name when I was 21 and did not change my birth certificate.

Photo of two boys - one vaccinated against smallpox, the other not - published in 1901 by Dr. Allan Warner. Smallpox killed over half a billion people in the 20th century alone. On 8 May 1980, the WHO announced its eradication, which was achieved through #vaccines, surveillance, and containment.

This is an important point I think. Opposition to Musk isn't based on philosophical or political views. It's between people who know when they're being conned and people who don't. Whether we still have a functioning country after this depends on how many of us fall for the wallet inspector gag

Chihuahua on stilts has entered the chat. (This thread is a delight.)

The "Gulf of America" thing is ridiculous, but if the press gives in on this, the administration will just keep pushing - maybe conditioning access on deadnaming people, saying Trump won the 2020 election, you name it. Draw a line in the sand now, while the stakes seem small.

the CFPB that Musk wants to shut down has won $21 billion for Americans from predatory financial institutions and big banks quick, does anyone know if $21 billion is more than $711 million

We’ve become used to right wingers throwing tantrums every time black people are on tv in something everyone is watching (the olympics, superbowl, ect) but it’s actually fucking weird and we shouldn’t act like that’s a normal reaction
