A civil society has third places to enjoy your city and its people. Utrecht is a cozy Dutch city.

Every artist or writer should have a personal library. If you can't find 200 books that matter to you, you're lacking curiosity-- thinking too much about yourself.

If you want Bluesky to have a lot of energy (and have more news folks) you have to start following a lot of them, so that you can create a lot of discussions and cross-pollination, so to speak. Threads hates engagement, and X has drowned it in trolls.

Public libraries are a really beautiful aspect of our civic life. As I sit here working in my community library, I feel these operate according to the norms of "public goods" that would apply elsewhere, too. So if we can agree our libraries should exist, maybe other public goods should too...
