In which old friends are revisited and details revealed. ⚒️🧪 geology

This hits hard. A place I know, love, have studied at and worked for. Sea level matters. History matters. ❄️🧪 #scicomm #climate #UVMresearch #science  🌎 🔬 ⚒️ #geosky #ClimateHealth #ClimateAction www.nytimes.com/2025/04/22/a...

personally would like to see every store show what part of the price increase is due to tariffs bc if these tariffs ever come down, i need to see that price go right back down

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I would say unbelievable, but it’s completely believable. According to Trump, January 2024--when Biden was in office—was Trump’s market. Meanwhile, April 2025—while Trump is in office—that’s Biden’s stock market. Some idiot is going to say this makes sense, too.

April 28, 2025: Migrants are making SOS signs out of their bodies so drones can see them at our country's concentration camps.

Every Democrat should be out doing this. Thanks to the governors, @govjayinslee.bsky.social and @governorwalz.mn.gov, who are out there everywhere galvanizing people.

Are you a woman who changed your name when you got married? Congress is considering a bill that could make it much harder for you to vote. Call your rep—this is not a drill. indivisible.org/resource/cal...

What some people aren’t factoring into their analysis is the reality that companies were buying tons of inventory to beat the tariffs. That’s cash taken from being able to invest or hire. In fact the probably cut costs and jobs as a result. #econsky

This is Samson. He thought he was getting a simple piece of cheese. And then discovered the miracle that is mozzarella sticks. 13/10

In fact, it is offensively ridiculous to think that any but a handful of people disappeared by ICE will be able to file habeas corpus, because it relies on them having informed families with connections to available knowledgeable lawyers with time and resources to act instantly.

They’re going to keep pushing until something stops them.

Russell 2000 hit its circuit breaker in the overnight hours, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. Japan halted trading after hitting their breaker. Tomorrow is gonna be ugly.

@vickyveritas.bsky.social Some chuckles for you.

Every time I read about banning books, I think of this: Reading a book with a gay character will not make you gay any more than reading a book about Einstein will make you a genius. If you're afraid that books might change someone's thinking, you're not afraid of books — you're afraid of thinking.

This is high art

Welcome !

Today's newsletter is about how major newspapers downplayed the protests over the weekend: www.readtpa.com/p/print-medi...

YOU DID WHAT?

The Trump administration is firing hundreds and perhaps thousands of federal workers as part of a crackdown on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Many of the fired weren't in DEI jobs.

This is important: Ousted Department of Justice officials will testify at a hearing today about the Trump administration's recent attacks on the rule of law. Credit to Senator Schiff and Representative Raskin for pushing for accountability.

when people say "this isn't what I voted for" they should be forced to list what they DID vote for

"Capus said that Russian clients were now getting a red TV screen with a sign: 'We regret to inform you that US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) has decided to terminate the distribution of Current Time'..." www.france24.com/en/europe/20...

Just a legal historian here reminding everyone that “high crimes and misdemeanors” do not need to be felonies. They can include political abuses and stupidity, like, hypothetically, destroying the economy and wiping out people’s savings in 3 days.

What makes this visual even more stunning is that it was made possible by people who said their #1 concern when voting was the economy. What idiots.

Newark’s new law to allow 16- and 17-year olds to vote for school board is inspiring other New Jersey cities. Atlantic City and Jersey City are exploring similar changes, and a statewide bill to expand youth voting is in the works. boltsmag.org/newark-...

I was at one of those protests the @nytimes.com is writing about here & can say from first hand experience that people were bemoaning everything Trump & Musk but NOT 'the lack of strong opposition.' Good freaking grief. Do journalism & talk to some of us, please. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/05/u...

The best sign of the day, by far.

🚨 SCOOP 🚨 DHS is asking IRS to locate **7 MILLION** suspected undocumented immigrants using confidential tax records. It’s a massive escalation by DHS to use the tax system for mass deportation. IRS officials are aghast, say it’s likely illegal.

They wanted to lie about it.

Trump promised to: 1. Immediately lower prices 2. Immediately end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza 3. Cut taxes Trump actually: 1. Increased prices 2. Failed to end the war in Ukraine of Gaza 3. Unilaterally implemented one of the largest tax increases in history

“The main thing I’ve learned from extreme weather events is that the climate crisis is shaped by inequity and dominance of patriarchal and colonial structures, which also prevents the serious pursuit of climate protection.” - Otto @jeffgoodell.bsky.social
