I constantly hear/see journalists, commentators & interviewers asserting how easy it is to get incapacity & disability benefits despite clearly having no real understanding of how the process actually works or having spoken to someone who's been through it. Completely distorts public understanding

An EXCLUSIVE story here, also covered in the last Page 94 but one and the last Private Eye. For early scoops on Cross Pavement Charging Solutions you simply must subscribe to the Eye.

In case you missed earlier posts, Book 6 in my Scipio series set in 3rd Century Roman empire is now available from Amazon. Paperback & Kindle versions available.

New discovery: First discovery of a royal tomb since King Tutankhamun's was found over a century ago. A joint Egyptian-British archaeological team has uncovered the tomb of King Thutmose II, the last missing royal tomb of the 18th Dynasty. english.ahram.org.eg/News/540638.... 🏺 AncientEgyptBluesky

I didn’t really have any great hopes of Dundee United getting a decent result at Celtic Park today. Just as well. Still, it could have been worse. Let’s hope the team drag themselves out of this losing streak soon.

The beautiful blue of this fresco from Camulodunum draws our eye this #FrescoFriday. While much of the panel is modern reconstruction, you can still caught enough of the original blue between the warriors (thought to be gladiators). #AncientBluesky🏺

At the last talk I gave, a lady bought my novel, “World’s End” for her husband. She’s been back in touch to say he enjoyed it so much he wants the other 7 books in my Calgacus series. That sort of reader response always makes me feel good. #Books #HistoricalFiction #AncientRome

I haven’t downloaded the Deep Seek app. After reading this, I don’t think I’ll bother. There seem to be too many security & privacy issues with it. https://9to5mac.com/2025/02/07/multiple-security-flaws-found-in-deepseek-ios-app-including-sending-unencrypted-data/

That moment when you wake up & realise that the chapter you spent so much time writing yesterday just doesn’t work. That.

Today is Imbolc, an ancient Celtic festival marking the beginning of Spring, and the return of both light and life to Scotland. Wouldn't this be the perfect time of year to highlight Glasgow's fantastic architecture by lighting up as much of it as possible? Cont./ #glasgow #architecture #imbolc

I hope they get this sorted. If not, FIFA are going to regret awarding the World Cup to the USA. If teams aren’t allowed into the country, the whole thing is going to be a farce.https://www.cityam.com/2026-world-cup-visa-backlog-could-keep-teams-and-fans-locked-out-of-us/

I have a 365 account. Microsoft have just tried to tell me my price has gone up. I signed in and found they’d upped my subscription. If you don’t want Co Pilot (and I don’t) go to cancel recurrent payment and you’ll notice your old plan at your old price is still there. I opted for that. Story over.

This absolutely jaw-dropping mosaic of doves drinking from a bronze bowl is so detailed that it almost seems like an oil painting. Found in Hadrian’s villa, the piece is thought to be a copy of the famous C2nd BCE mosaicist from Pergamum, Sosos. #MosaicMonday #AncientBluesky🏺

I hope everyone stays safe today. It’s getting wild out there. Fortunately, many businesses have taken the sensible decision to close, so a lot of folk can stay at home. Don’t go out unless you have no choice. #StormEowyn

Oh dear. The Equalizer 3 is a dreadful movie. Denzel Washington is always good, but he’s let down by a truly awful script and some 2nd rate acting by others. The Audio Description was very basic too. That’s 2 hours of my life I’m not going to get back.

As I haven’t mentioned my latest book for at least 2 weeks, a reminder that The Conspirators, book 6 in my Sempronius Scipio series set in 3rd Century Roman Empire, is available from Amazon in p/back & Kindle formats. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the 1st 5, but feel free to get them as well. 😎

So sad to learn of the passing of Denis Law. He was an icon of my childhood. Still Scotland’s top goalscorer, especially on a goals per game basis. https://news.stv.tv/sport/manchester-united-confirm-death-of-legendary-scotland-forward-denis-law

NEW: The DWP consultation into plans to slash billions of pounds from disability benefits has been ruled unlawful in a damning High Court ruling. Mr Justice Calver repeatedly described the consultation held in autumn 2023 as “misleading”, “rushed” and “unfair” www.bigissue.com/news/social-...

OMG! For all blind folk. Just learned that, in the AIRA Explorer app, on the More tab, there is a Labs button. Behind it is a Beta of Continuous Scan. Turn it on, go to the AI tab & your phone gives running commentary on what the camera sees. Incredible! I’m gonna kill my battery playing with this.

In a hectic festive period Dundee United have played 7 games in 21 days. 2 matches were against Celtic, & 5 were away from home. To get 4 wins & 1 draw out of that lot was a superb achievement. I couldn’t get to any of the games. Maybe I should stay away if they keep getting results like that.

I rarely invoke Siri via “Hey Siri”, but I discovered it wouldn’t respond if my iPhone was locked. As that’s when I’m most likely to use voice, I checked settings but couldn’t find anything. It turns out the “Always listen” setting is under Accessibility>Siri rather than in the main Siri settings.

A new theory about the Sutton Hoo burials. Interesting, although I’m not sure whether there is any way to prove this one way or the other. #History #Archaeology https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/sutton-hoo-burials-byzantine-royals-army-b2675652.html

I can’t say I’m looking forward to United’s match against Celtic this evening. As our poor performance on Sunday showed, the 2 games a week regime is taking a toll on our limited squad. We’ll do well to get away without a gubbing.
