Hard to disagree withā€¦ though I think we would all be surprised at the lack of evidence many interventions actually haveā€¦

There is quite a bit here that resonatesā€¦.

Interesting readā€¦.having just seemingly taken on a new responsibility today I for one am willing to see if AI helps!

Not surprising given the support needed to overcome the selection process when will we come back to the question of post-results applications and do away with the structural bias that these entry tests and interviews create?

"Memes ā€“ when used carefully ā€“ seem to be a great teaching tool to engage students with the material and help them elaborate on the concepts and ideas." Carolina Kuepper-Tetzel via @learningscientists.bsky.social www.learningscientists.org/blog/2023/8/...

"Ofsted ratings and league tables rightly reward academic performance but fail to capture how schools support their most vulnerable pupils." This happens time and time again. We need to celebrate the schools that do the right thing for all the children of their community before anything else.

Just read the online commentary of the Starmer/ Trump meeting and watched clips canā€™t quite decide what I think. One the one hand most of the reviews seem positive. On the other criticisms seem to be coming from a completely understandable personal perspective.

So good to see the other side of the narrative (which reflects so many lived experiences) finally get some airtimeā€¦.albeit disappointingly little!

A really important read given the misconceptions I see teachers using when planning retrieval practice.

Short thread where I try to explain what validity is and why it's important. (This stuff is hard: tell me where I'm wrong) ā†“

Couldnā€™t agree moreā€¦ whilst change is welcome deliberate and intentional change should have been the aimā€¦ not a raft of tautological criteria, so poorly worded as to be almost semantically meaningless, delivered to an arbitrary deadline šŸ¤”

A vital degree of nuance that could easily be lost in the hours of transliteration that schools will undoubtedly be forced to undertake to internalise these new frameworks and toolkitsā€¦

Word discovery of the day is ā€˜yoke-devilā€™ (17th century): an accomplice in a villainous or immoral undertaking.

ā€˜Why teaching academic vocabulary mattersā€™ ā€œWhat is clear is that the language of what we readā€¦ is different to our daily talk. The vocabulary is more rare, the sentence structures more complex, the patterns of imagery more elaborately constructed.ā€ alexquigley.co.uk/why-teaching...

Word of the day, for the umpteenth time, is ā€˜apricateā€™, the sister of ā€˜apricityā€™. It means to bask in the warmth of the sun, especially on a chilly day.

In todayā€™s episode, Mr Inspector explains to Mr Causing Concern that he can help him be more like Mr Secure for a small consultancy fee #ofsted

The granular detail that is needed to understand and support school improvement is sorely lacking in the proposed framework. Without it we will see schools able to best justify and evidence their inclusivity being praised whilst doing nothing to shed light on the specifics needed šŸ˜©

The new Ofsted framework could lead to an ā€œarmy of expensive consultantsā€ and ā€œhow-to guidesā€ as schools try to adapt to the new expectations, @headsroundtable.bsky.social has warned the inspectorate. www.tes.com/magazine/new...

So waitā€¦ In the middle of a teacher shortage and after the Ofsted reforms were shown to be anything but, theyā€™re thinking of shortening the school holidays? If I donā€™t laugh Iā€™ll cry. #edusky

Calm Leadership Lesson: Staying in control of your emotions is critical to remaining calm, balanced, focused, and productive. In the most challenging moments, this self-discipline allows you to be a reassuring presence for those around you. Be the calm at the centre of the storm. šŸŒŸ Lead Calmly ā¤ļø

I am not yet convinced that this coheres with the latest frameworks coming from OFSTED. Particularly powerful was the the distinction between specification and prescription. Prescribing what we want schools to be is greatā€¦ specifying what that actually means in practice, seems to be lacking!

At last, an example of the minimum expected response to being caught out in public office. Hereā€™s hoping this returns to being the norm.

A brilliant and erudite blog that captures both the inadequacy of some labels and their very real value. The criteria for the value of a diagnostic label is something we should all be constantly considering!

Couldnā€™t agree more šŸ‘

A great read for prompting reflection on a crucial area for us all even if it just stimulates reflection on what we have embedded so far.

What an excellent exploration of leadership whilst also challenging some of the most overused and least understood terms in education leadershipšŸ‘

The list of people I find suffering from this seems to grow daily šŸ˜‚

As usual another handy summary
