ICYMI: We're back cataloging Trump's cruelties, collusions, corruptions, and crimes.

I am glad that Senators are grilling DNI Gabbard and CIA Director Ratcliffe today. Today should be the start of a 4-year drum beat on Trump's team putting US troops in jeopardy by sharing operational war plans with a reporter before undertaking the operation. Too much is not enough.

TIL the one place that it's very clear cut tha tCPB cannot search your devices without a warrant is JFK

New in @theguardian.com from the President of @ala-acrl.bsky.social: "Cutting [federal library] funding is more than just budget trimming. It means dismantling essential community infrastructure." Read President Lo's full article: www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... #ForOurLibraries #FundLibraries

And having posted a recipe in honour of the Spring Equinox, it seemed only fair to offer a suitable recipe for those in the Southern Hemisphere, where they’ve just had the Autumn Equinox: my Chicken with Red Grapes and Marsala www.nigella.com/recipes/chic...

Love this essay/manifesto by @anandwrites.bsky.social "Because having, and nurturing, in your life a sphere for joy and connection and community and love and food and music and human difference and living and letting live is everything they are not and is everything they are trying to take away."

I was asked today how I can keep working when everything is *waves hand* like this. Honestly? It’s BECAUSE it’s *waves hand* like this. Because if I don’t, who will? Because if I sit down, I may never get up. Because the only way out is through, and I believe in a better world on the other side.

I get that everyone is riled up, and that's a good thing, but maybe instead of saying, 'More people should be doing this' and 'You should be doing that,' try saying, 'I am doing [this specific action], and please join me!' Be active!

Pro tip: if you aren't sure if a protest is legitimate, ask if they have legal support and who the lawyer for the legal support is. If the answer is no, don't go. Because experienced organizers don't have sign up sheets for protests. They do, however, have legal support beforehand.

If you’re protesting this weekend, know your rights.

I feel the weekend calls for slices of Bara Brith, the traditional Welsh fruit-speckled tea bread, spread so thickly with butter you leave tooth marks when you bite into a slice. (The Danes call this happy state of affairs tandsmør, incidentally.) www.nigella.com/recipes/bara...

🚨NEW🚨: Donald Trump is attempting to strip away federal support for libraries. We will NOT let that happen. Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it. Full EO: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

"The social science research is clear: In the absence of a countervailing message, a 1-sided debate will powerfully shape public opinion. As long as he faces no public counter-argument... Trump will punish universities & pay no cost in the court of public opinion" www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

About damn time.

If you are tired well before 11pm, it is because you are juggling daily tasks with everything in the news going on and trying to navigate rapidly changing circumstances. Remember how tired you were for most of 2020?

Massachusetts is losing $12 million in federal funding to help schools source food from local farms, thanks to Trump administration cuts. State and industry officials say the move will rock local farmers who built their businesses around the contracts: www.wbur.org/news/2025/03... @wbur.org

New: we've obtained a leaked list of the more than 200 sites, services, apps an ICE surveillance contractor monitors. Bluesky, OnlyFans, many more. Used to track targets. Highly relevant with the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil by ICE. We've published the full list here: www.404media.co/the-200-site...

Judith Butler: "Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic, because that means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice, and a third, a fourth, and then what happens?"

How God and good men hate so foul a liar.

No, the meeting did not go badly for Ukraine. It exposed in the most undeniable, unequivocal way possible the pro-Putin commitments of the president and vice president. That was information Americans and allies needed to have clear before them.

My mentor and dear friend @roxanegay.bsky.social recently joined me here at Harvard Medical School for an incredible event. We both read new work and then had a wide-ranging discussion about the creative life, politics and culture. I’m delighted to be able to share the video now:

House Republicans just took the first step towards passing their plans to cut health care and hike the cost of groceries for millions of people. Why? To pay for tax giveaways for billionaires and billionaire corporations. Working people won't forget this. We need to fight back.

Anger is useful, but it burns hot. Use it before it burns up.

"“DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” is a recognition of the current political moment, and it is an indictment of the past colonizers want to erase."

We could just be reading great books, watching good movies, and eating fruit. Instead we have to survive/fight miserable power hoarders. What a waste of limited time.

The reality on homesteads is that what they largely did was (a) plant a large amount of cash crop and (b) plant a smaller kitchen garden. If your cash crop came in, most of it would get sold, which would then get traded for machinery / subsistence food to make it through winter.

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country
