BIG: FTC commissioner says he was just illegally fired by President Trump. x.com/bedoyaftc/st...

Judge Reyes will issue a preliminary injunction allowing transgender people to continue to serve in the US military. She stayed her order til Friday morning to allow for an appeal to the DC Circuit. Lengthy opinion: s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

Judge Ana Reyes rules military ban denies trans servicemembers equal protection of the law: “Indeed, the cruel irony is that thousands of transgender servicemembers have sacrificed—some risking their lives—to ensure for others the very equal protection rights the Military Ban seeks to deny them.”

"Columbia will remain the college of no king." We need all of us standing up and stating this across all aspects of our lives. danieldrezner.substack.com/p/guest-post...

Freedom of expression is being stomped and trampled in America, by its own federal administration. Why does an international student have to justify or worry about expressing solidarity towards civilian Palestinians? America is being deformed openly. www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2...

I know I keep asking this, but how long does it take for people to realize they’re on the wrong side of history?

So much skill, positivity and grace, in the face of blatant discrimination, by young musicians. Extreme contrast to the current administration's lack of grace or competence. Shame on President Trump and all others who are enabling these kind of actions.

America withdrawing from the role of a (mostly) positive force, will have a terrible negative impact to our world's (and America's) political and economic stability, for the foreseeable future. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhY8...

The Trump regime will arrest you in the middle of the night because you spoke your mind. And federal agents in plain clothes who refuse to identify themselves will be the ones to do it. If you think I'm being hyperbolic, watch this clip.

I can confirm that every person in the Department of Education who worked on IPEDS received a notification this week that they were going to be fired. All of them. Private contractors do some of the work on IPEDS, but it won't function without staff in ED.

...topics such as the Civil War..."??? It literally became a national cemetery *because of the Civil War. We're not a serious country. Or, more accurately, this isn't a serious government

Extraordinary moment — Nancy Pelosi issues a statement calling on Democratic senators to reject the House funding bill, i.e. to defy Chuck Schumer. "Democratic senators should listen to the women," she says, referring to Murray/DeLauro who want a 1-month stopgap bill instead.

It can't just be up to the courts to stop the executive branch's extreme overreach. This is just playing defense. Congress wake up and keep the executive branch in check. We need offense to stop such behavior. It's your duty and responsibility. www.npr.org/2025/03/12/g...

Congrats to ADL, AJC and the other mainstream Jewish orgs content to sit back while a fascist delivers antisemitic smears against the most prominent Jew in American government

WHOA: Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser recommended that the court "reject" the "Statement of Interest" filed by DOJ in Tina Peters's habeas case (mentioned here: www.lawdork.com/p/doj-trump-...) as "a grotesque attempt to weaponize the rule of law." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

Unfortunately "The Post-American World is now in plain sight." How long will it take for all the damage to be undone? x.com/FareedZakari...

I always wondered why America was better at rule of law than others. I used to think it was its Constitution and its Institutions. I realized during Trump's first presidency that they mean nothing without people "simply deciding" to respect them and showing deference.

May I suggest something radical? Have mercy on people. Even on here. What’s happening is unprecedented, so politicians, journalists, public servants etc are doing their best to adjust. Not doing exactly what you think they should doesn’t mean they’re giving up or giving in.

President Trump’s latest tariffs are an attack on Canadian workers, families, and businesses. My government will ensure our response has maximum impact in the US and minimal impact here in Canada, while supporting the workers impacted. (1/2)

Yes, ADL should've waited at least till the completion of due process for this student.

Here's a key reason Senate Dems shouldn't vote for the CR: Trump and Musk are the ones who are *already* shutting down the government. That's the frame the public will use to understand what's happening. Check out my exchange with @tommalinowski.bsky.social on this: newrepublic.com/article/1925...

The White House has taken over the "pool" system, in which a rotating list of newsrooms have, for example, their person on the plane, who then shares their reporting with the rest of the Correspondents Association, which used to run this thing. www.status.news/p/whca-white... Now there's trouble...

BREAKING: Judge blocks Columbia pro-Palestinian protest organizer Mahmoud Khalil's removal from US pending further action on habeas petition. Doc: www.documentcloud.org/documents/25... Earlier: www.politico.com/news/2025/03...

This isn't the first time we're seeing Trump's authoritarianism on display, but this is arguably the most blatant example of it. Free speech and democracy are in peril in Trump's America, and we all must stand up to it.

New: Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia University protester detained by ICE on Saturday, has been moved to an ICE facility in Louisiana, according to ICE's detainee locator system. He is a green card holding legal permanent resident and not charged with a crime. www.404media.co/columbia-pro...

Why? Because Maine’s governor Janet Mills told him to his face she would obey federal and state law, not his bullying edict, and he snapped at her like he did at Zelenskyy and she said see you in court. So, being a thin-skinned hateful savage, he’s now collectively punishing/antagonizing Mainers.

Last night, the D.C. Circuit granted a request from the Justice Department to remove Hampton Dellinger as Special Counsel pending its appeal of a ruling that allowed him to keep his job. Dellinger decided today to end his legal fight with the Trump administration. His statement:

As reported, the entire staff of 538 was laid off this morning. This is a severe blow to political data journalism, and I feel for my colleagues. Readers note: As we were instructed not to publish any new content, all planned updates to polls data and averages are canceled indefinitely. Huge loss :(

One consequence of the resistance to established science is the way it forces scientists and journalists to re-prove and remind people of what is true. NPR has a story noting why measles are a big deal: It's one of the most contagious diseases on Earth. loom.ly/WMZO9pw

I attended — by digital means — Semafor's "Innovating to Restore Trust in News" event. Interviews with important people in the biz. The best was CNN’s Mark Thompson. Here was his point: Deference can lead to trust. (So can cults.) Is that good? Maybe these nitpicks are trying to tell us something.

We need to talk about Trump’s threat to defund universities unless they arrest and expel protesters. We’re watching classic fascistic institutional capture in real time and if this continues unabated we’re going to look up and live in a world without escape. The time to fight is now.

Worth a listen. We live in absolutely insane times.
