Also, on a day like yesterday, the volume is what sends the message. Not each individual caller. We ALL have questions about yesterday, but it doesn't mean members of Congress are at the ready with helpful information that a receptionist can share freely.

Also quite possible that no one gave them any tools to work with. During the impeachment, I had a quote from my boss that I could share with constituents. They may not even have a script, so what should they say to effectively represent the boss's thoughts?

On a regular day, I'm sure that's how the interaction would go. Yesterday, those calls were coming in at an unmanageable volume, all with the same message. It's overwhelming. For a more personal response, a letter works. You get out of the interaction with a member what you put in.

Everyone has different motivations. Public service is admirable. Not all staffers or electeds are doing "public service," but that was my approach to the job. I learned a lot, and that experience still informs my work. Today's receptionist could be tomorrow's AOC.

Yes, which is why I pointed out that they receive pay from federal taxpayer dollars.

Ummm, paging Dick Wolf....we are gonna need an episode with The Mank playing himself. We promise to double the ratings if @benmank77.bsky.social can be the bad guy. Signed, the Dateline/SVU/TCM Crossover Fan Club

Do you pay taxes and consider members of Congress and congressional staff to be Nazis? Then by your logic, YOU are the one writing checks to Nazis.
comment in response to post
The check comes from the taxpayers. Members of Congress are not using their own money to pay staff.
comment in response to post
Do you believe that is a fair comparison? I do not. I am disappointed in Congress too, but I blame the men and women whose names are on the front door and the ballot. When you elect new officials, you also get new staff. The Nazis didn't operate like that.

I answered phones on the hill during Clinton's impeachment trial. Please be nice to the staff. It's a very difficult job. Hard to make someone feel seen on a good day. They work with what the bosses give them. Be kind. You don't know their frustration.

Former congressional staffer here. The person you are talking to probably makes about 20 or 25k, which doesn't go far in DC. Profit comes after you've been on the hill a while and then you"cash out" by going to work for a lobbying outfit. Entry level staff often have 2nd jobs to make ends meet.

All of that. Plus we started buying albums, replaced those with cassettes, replaced those with CDs, then loaded all the CDs on a computer, then transferred to the iPod. Then throw all that away and pay for a Spotify subscription. Just to keep listening to the whole Duran Duran catalog. Exhausting.

But the magas seem to love the disappearing! I'm trying to bring inclusivity back, Mr. President. 😉 This administration has disappeared ppl for less offensive actions. I'm just keeping up with the times.

Please nominate me for Secretary of Disappearing People Who Use Their Cell Phone As A Walkie Talkie. You will hold that thing to your ear and you will be considerate of other people's sanity or you will be a gawn pecawn. These are the rude criminals who need to go, President Cherry.

I can highly recommend Combi-patch or the generic version. Little sticker goes on your hip. Change it 2x in a week. Patch works differently by not going through your liver like pills do, so less risk. Hot flashes are about gone. Much love to all of us living through this.

Just curious, did you try pointing out that their party controls all 3 branches but can't pass a law? Extreme is pretending to govern by EO and DOGE. Why must they circumvent Congress if their ideas are soooooo popular and beneficial?

I believe the correct phrasing is "incel clown posse"

Here are the emails for LA senators' chiefs of staff. If you can't connect via phone, you can email.

Thank YOU for all the work you are doing! (And the pet pics! Keep those coming too!)

The number to the DC office is (202) 224-5824. I would call and complain that you took time from your work day to participate in democracy and are disappointed in the ROI from your tax dollars. You can also ask to speak directly to the senator's chief of staff (DC) or the state director (BR).

Insurance as a business might have made sense when there was a middle class with disposable income and no hole in the ozone. But those days are gone and biz ppl keep trying to profit. Read the room, Insurance bros. It's over. Gotta change with the times/apocalypse.

Don't just "think" you're funny. KNOW that you are funny, because you don't need anything other than you to make people smile and laugh in this brutal world. Thank you for the smiles and the distraction from all the misery. ❤️
