Eyeballing that overall trend line for growth - it looks to be downward over the decades

It competes with funds for researching alternative energy sources that negate the need for CO2 removal in the first place.

A gut check on robot mania is needed. Ever seen a robot with the dexterity of a human? Tech often follows an S-curve. AI ≠ robots and anyway LLM gains are flattening in ways scaling doesn't solve. We read so much about agents in the 1990s but here we are again. So my much uncritical hype.

lol. McKinsey makes a wild ass guess about increases in power consumption and NVDA translates that back into revenue opportunity. Get more skeptical

Welcome to the the war on cars.
Ps - Covid damaged spacial and reflex abilities in a chunk of the population, increased strokes, etc so there's that too

More accurate: "BUT, guess what's back? 🔥 Smoke from burning oil for energy making our planet more flammable, this time originating from Canadian fires."

Interesting. I was using the voice mode on ChatGPT often months back then trailed off. Tried it again this week and thought "hmm, I thought I liked this more before." Didn't realize they'd made changes but it makes sense now.

My question about "Claude can run autonomously for seven hours" is, "Why TF I want to wait 7 hours on Claude? That's progress?"

#degrowth has silver lining wrt climate

It feels naive to think humankind can mitigate against uncontrolled heating. Like it's a distraction from (or corporate whataboutism to delay) reversing greenhouse gas pollution. Good pool visualization; an enclosed tank may be more grim and accurate

Climate "mitigation" won't cut it. We need to leave carbon in the ground and draw down.

I'll be disappointed if they are allowed to destroy forest conservation areas outright. Maybe solar displacing fossil fuels is as beneficial as trees?

I'd rather see farmers benefit by installing or leasing solar than selling and contributing to sprawl

Quickly reaching point of diminishing returns. Cute demo via $1000 budget, 1000 takes, 15-20 applications. Fuel efficiency in cars stalled decades ago, and commercial airlines travel the same speeds as the 90s. Generative AI model comparisons are shifting away from ability gains to cheaper / faster

"Running the microwave for 1 hour" = 3% of 1 gallon of gasoline. So 10 cents of energy. Wasting energy sucks but if we're clutching pearls can we focus on car dependency and do something about the bigger problem?

Many learned to HODL crypto and BTC. If exchanged at 100k+ to buy S&P on dips, does that line go anywhere but up?

Green investments are the economical way to increase energy production. Slowing investment would be moving backward.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Rather see emphasis on leaving fossil fuel in the ground. "Mitigation" feels like greenwashing, particularly as cover for businesses to continue as usual (because down the road something might feasibly work.) Fully support natural drawdown.
