I will also admit I grew up in a very dense and especially transit connected part of NYC, so I recognize that my bar is probably high. A politically empowered 50% still results in places that, even in terms of just physical design choices, feel extremely car centric by comparison.

Also true, and then hard to build goodwill with opponents on other streets, who won’t be able to directly see and learn from the benefits on your street, or don’t see the full potential because the network is still so patchwork, or believe it’s different where they are, or …

I also find many stretches of Ashland feel equally perilous and terrible, so crossing planted medians off doesn’t feel like a big loss to me. Wider sidewalks is compatible with what’s been done east of Orchard, at least.
