READ THIS: “We found there’s this perfect one-to-one relationship. If a city increased its road capacity by 10% then driving in that city went up by 10%.” Still one of the best articles on why building bigger roads leads to more driving. Understanding #InducedDemand via @wired.com

This is not a region that can tolerate a 50% cut in bus service. Help us make this an issue that politicians can't ignore. Go to http://savethebus.ca and ask your MLA for a meeting. [This is the 257 stop downtown going *out* of the city core in the AM Peak. This is the less-busy direction.]

See all the street furniture, the extended patios? You can't have any of this placemaking if you make the street car free only 1 day a week for 8 hours. No business is going to install and dismantle these things on repeat. This was a Thursday btw

Cute date idea: we watch the liberal leadership debate together. We drink every time frank says "all canadians." We kiss for however long they discuss trump.

"If these deaths were caused by a virus, it would be called a pandemic and the world would scramble to develop a vaccine to prevent them" www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

Genuinely sad that I missed the earthquake because I was jamming out to my music

Canadian government announces plan to link Québec City-Montréal–Toronto with 300 km/h (186 mph) high-speed trains, with construction beginning in 4-5 years. Would reduce travel times from Montréal–Toronto to 3 hours. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

It's not much, but it means the world. My mum tried to receive care in Ontario, so it felt appropriate to donate to CAMH (@camhnews.bsky.social) - I strongly believe in their vision and encourage you folks to support them. I am so grateful and privileged to have friends like this ❤️

BREAKING: “The single most comprehensive rezoning in the United States.” Cambridge Mass. Council just voted overwhelmingly to allow 6-storey multi-family housing city-wide. “Paris-style.” Congratulations.

My valentine had a surprise competition with the pizza guy (Neither won. My true love is the pizza.)

I'm having the time of my life haha this is so cool! Thanks for sharing!

Canadian version (unfortunately shorter timelines, also slightly different selection). Similar cross-over between motherhood and education status. And the shift in participation with <=5yo child during/after pandemic is clearly visible for both groups, women with bachelor or above and those without.

An excellent well researched podcast from @theglobeandmail.com about #DougFord and his war on bike lanes in Toronto podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/c...

Took matters into my own hands and shoveled part of the 10th ave bikeway because it doesn't seem like the city will

“Misinformation and why-bother attitudes [from the city’s current mayor and ruling party] threaten Vancouver’s green reputation. With a looming by-election, Vancouverites should think hard about what forces are shaping our city’s — and planet’s — future.” Via @thenarwhal.ca

People might think the upcoming Vancouver by-election doesn't matter, because ABC will still control a minimum of 8/11 votes. I disagree! Do you like the things on this list? They're motions that @christineboyle.bsky.social brought to council during this term alone.

If you want an affordable city, where everyone is safe and where everyone belongs, Ken Sim isn’t working for you. We need leaders who are ready to stand up and fight back. That’s why I’m running with @onecityvan.bsky.social for City Council. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGcI...

I'm so excited that @lucymaloney.bsky.social is running for Vancouver city council with @onecityvan.bsky.social! She’s been a tireless advocate for safer streets, affordable housing, and caring for our most vulnerable. She’s also just a lovely human being. Let’s get her elected!

Some of Vancouver's bikeways have enough potholes to dislodge my IUD

BTW, I published a paper in American Journal of Epidemiology outlining some of the most common fallacies that cause people to misunderstand observational data, or use observational data to mislead others with false claims. It is now open access/freely available academic.oup.com/aje/advance-...

The EKOS polls are what we like to call, outliers

14% of cyclists broke traffic laws without bike infrastructure, but this was 5% with bike infrastructure Bike lanes help everyone, drivers included

It’s estimated that 1 Skytrain transit line in #MetroVancouver replaces between 20 & 26 lanes of freeway vehicle traffic. And then consider the amount of PARKING it replaces, how much pollution & GHG emissions it replaces, how much public cost it replaces. Transit makes cities work. #CityMakingMath

Starter pack for Vancouver urbanists! It's small (but mighty). Please suggest more people who should be included! go.bsky.app/Sh2qgrE

is this really what we want water street to look like?? really?!
