If you're in Eastern Canada, EU membership should be especially appealing since we would need to make massive investments in roads, rail, harbours and ships all along the East Coast.

We'll always have disagreements with our neighbours to the South but it can't lead to trade war or fear of invasion when it happens. Canada + the EU is a market of almost 400 million (more if the UK comes back) - we wouldn't be as dependent and bullying would no longer be a viable tactic.
