Dear Manager: 1. I'm a picker 2. I’m a grinner 3. I’m a lover 4. And I'm a sinner 5. I play my music in the sun

Trump’s $200 million ad campaign supposedly directed at migrants is airing on…Fox News?

This letter to the editor from 1961 voices the same diagnosis of the nation's ills and the same solution--to completely obliterate the New Deal state--that animates the MAGA/Project 2025 blitz we're experiencing now. That 1961 newspaper was put out by a fascist who helped found the Posse Comitatus.

I should revise this to say: the goal of the men and monied interests behind the coup is not just to loot and monetize the collapse of the United States. It’s to loot, collapse and capture the whole world. They are coming for the whole world. That’s what the sitch with Russia/Ukraine is teaching us.

Again: I don’t think the primary goal of the anti-D.E.I. authoritarianism we’re seeing is re-segregation. It’s TOTAL human enslavement to corporations. Re-segregation is just a stop on that train. Explicit white supremacy and patriarchy are being used to make techno-fascism seductive to the masses.

Very powerful speech by @govpritzker.illinois.gov today "The seed that grew into a dictatorship in Europe a lifetime ago didn’t arrive overnight. It started with everyday Germans mad about inflation and looking for someone to blame.” www.chicagobusiness.com/politics/jb-...

Federal worker Chris Dols spitting fire. Calls DOGE a "smash and grab." Trump, Musk, and their 1% cronies "have shuttered the CFPB in the interest of letting banks and predatory lenders keeping all of us in debt until we die." Folks should follow and join @fedworkersunited.bsky.social

in his statement "cancelling" congestion pricing, sean duffy calls people who ride the subway "an elite few" and i just feel as a communication professional that they gotta decide if they're going with that or crime-ridden drug den homeless shelter

We all know that Edward Bates was a member of the American Party, right? He was a nativist and was not a supporter of extending political and civil rights to Black persons in America. I think he was more a Republican out of convenience than passion— he’s not of the Radical Republican mold!

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

Not only are you allowed to ask, the answer is "Reagan slashed the top tax rates & blew up defense spending, thereby reversing the 30+ year trend of decreasing debt/GDP ratios & every Republican since has found ways to make things even worse."

There's a Crisis of Masculinity in this country and the only way to solve it is to let me act like a cross between a baby and a movie villain

we really getting Khmer Douche

This is bittersweet. After going for YEARS without publications coming out of me because I was researching or writing, this academic year, I have two articles out. In the middle of a constitutional crisis when race and ethnicity scholarship, public unis, & democracy itself is under assault.

obviously this is terrible for democracy and the rule of law in America but I'm also offended on behalf of the prisoner's dilemma

The United States of America is coercing the Mayor of a major city to follow policies by threat of criminal prosecution for unrelated corruption.

I remember when Obama mildly criticized Fox News, the entire journalism world -- hey there, @jaketapper.bsky.social -- rose to its defense. Now Trump is excluding the AP from briefings & all the other media quislings are lining up for their slop without a word of protest.

And for the third straight day, the rest of the legacy media did nothing to stand up for the First Amendment. No boycott, no walkout, nothing but business as usual. Then, they wonder why people are canceling subscriptions and turning off their TV's while independent news outlets are thriving.

well there you go folks

This would be the same Darren Beattie who was fired by the Trump White House after it was revealed that he attended a white nationalist conference. (Those were the days, eh?) He was then hired by Matt Gaetz as a speechwriter, then went on to be a key creator of the "J6 was an FBI op" story.

I only order UberEats a few times a year because it's expensive & Uber is evil. At least, I thought they were evil before. Now they're so profoundly evil that my Uber deliverer has to staple cards to the deliveries begging people to tip because Uber has made tipping virtually invisible on the app.

Thousands hit the streets today against #ICE + Trump's authoritarian push for mass deportations. Demonstrators shut it down in cities across Texas, California, Georgia, Missouri, Washington + beyond. In Pflugerville, TX, people protested outside the site of a proposed ICE prison.

Never would I have imagined that the coup would look like this.

To everyone who says Democrats have no power: Do they have less political power and fewer tools at their disposal than Black Americans in the Jim Crow south?

The first ever US national nature assessment has been terminated and its USGCRP and DOI webpages have been removed. A PDF of the zeroth order draft is still available here: review.globalchange.gov/system/files...

I feel like there’s not enough attention being paid to the fact that Trump’s trillion dollar funding freeze was an attempt to do McCarthyism via Presidential fiat, & in the name of combatting a phantom force identified solely by a vague propaganda term the right only started using about 5 years ago.

The freezing of federal grants, the firing of all inspector generals, the immunization of political violence - does everybody not see what’s happening? In a blitzkrieg, Trump is trying to collapse our democracy - and probably our economy - and seize control. Call it what it is.

What Francis Fukuyama failed to mention is when you get to the End of History the tape automatically rewinds

All churches, all Christians, should talk about this, making it clear, this is the real attack on Christianity: www.al.com/news/2025/01...

every act of kindness is a repudiation of these fucking lizards

it is very telling of these guys’ conception of how power works that they see issuing a flurry of executive orders as evidence of presidential strength and vigor and not a sign that the president is too weak to pursue a serious legislative agenda

latest column is on the dipshit curtis yarvin

@tyleraking.com The Mutual Aid L.A. team's resource list is up. Please boost, it's the best one I've seen: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

people say “you have to judge slaveholders by the morality of their own time, no one knew it was wrong” and then you read about some Quaker named, like, Mr. End-Slavery-Now who was also a feminist and a vegetarian and advocated the overthrow of capitalism.

The house that QAnon built. 🤦‍♂️ www.nytimes.com/2024/11/20/u...

the system preceding race and gender integrated education and DEI was not even facially "meritocratic" - elite higher ed served as finishing schools for rich failsons, half of admissions criteria were invented to keep out Jews. the naked cronyism is the America they wanted to return to "greatness"

our ancestors accomplished more, with less, against worse. stay locked in.

At the risk of reading too much into Bluesky’s success at the moment, I do think it’s a signal that people don’t want to be surrounded by bots and manipulated algorithms AI can only go so far. We want human connection.
