I chucked Ubuntu on my Mac and never really got to know it because I spent 6 months fighting with it to get wifi and sound to work. Literally 2 mins after finally getting it all going and it asked me if I wanted to update and everything broke. Now I have to wipe and start again with the old ver

Is that Harlan Ellison? He was quite a character

It’s not really an adventure if it all goes according to plan 😂

They’re museum pieces at this point. Back before SD cards there was even a camera that used a floppy - it was great, just take the floppy and put it straight into your computer. A local card yard had one in the mid 90s and I thought we were living in the future!

We had some of the Zip drives at a club I was IT support for. Marvellous things. Until they got the inevitable click of death…

It was such a helpful little notification that popped up.. would you like to upgrade to the latest version? Like a fool I clicked yes and everything broke 😂

I read the first one but it was a lot so I’m taking a breather before the next one 😂

Reminds me of a Midnight Oil album cover

Having my wifi drivers stop working after I updated Ubuntu to the new version is less nice lol

I know how computers work and I find using Linux is like pulling teeth. I still do it because it’s useful but it’s not a pleasant experience as a desktop OS

What I don’t get is if they retire all government employees, who is going to do all the mundane things like run the national parks, keep the planes in the air… things a country, you know, needs

I thought the poppy war was horrifically badly written but ymmv

I read a couple and I thought the writing was fucking terrible. I’m not lecturing anyone about the content but I do like some character development and holy shit if you can pick up any book in the series that doesn’t bode well for character development. And did I mention appalling writing?

Yes if I present a stupid argument and people on here tell me it’s stupid, they must be all living in a bubble

I’ve been following you for a while and really digging these 70s photos. Really glad you still have them! Great composition in all of them

So this has been my thinking ever since DEI became the new boogeyman- a ban on DEI hiring is a de facto ban on hiring women and minorities. Nobody would believe me but soon they will

I used to be right into U Boat history. Read a lot of books about them. It was apparent that the Germans knew they had lost the submarine war when the Americans kept building more and more Liberty ships, faster than they could sink them.

Section 230 is the only reason you’re able to post on social media. Without it the website will be sued into the ground. RIP small forums too

So it was a trial run then?

So they’re running away from a real war because they have a pretend war on the border. Gotcha

Look I get what you are saying. All I am saying is I use what works for me. In 2018 I bought a Windows box with a decent GPU to do video work and within 6 months windows has driven me so completely batshit insane I sold the machine and went back to a Mac. I can’t speak for anyone else

You’re fixated on Apple being a cult. I bought my first Mac in 2004 when I got sick of fixing PC viruses. They’ve always worked well for me. So the iPhone came out and integrated with it so naturally I have one. But if the same apps were available on Android I’d be perfectly happy with one of them

Ok so find me a tablet that works as well as an iPad? They don’t exist. Android tablets by and large are shit. I buy what works for me.

Ok so you said “People do love to pay for apple services, they want to own everything apple will sell to them!” Which to me seems to mean you think there is a cult around apple and the customers will buy their products because of this. I’m simply saying, hey for me, I buy them because they work well
comment in response to post
Idk man, I think you got it backwards. I like the devices and the services work well. I’m not some blind fanboy but when you find something that works for you why choose something shittier just to appease people who don’t understand why you chose like you did?

I think that’s bring a bit disingenous. Apple’s whole ‘thing’ is to charge premium prices and then they don’t have to sell our data to make money. The exactly opposite of Meta for instance.

I suspect he will stop those payments. Then claim victory over the rampant woke fraud, and move on. In the mean time real people will lose their income and become homeless or die. But that’s not newsworthy so we won’t really hear about it.

Speed limit is either 20 or 25 mph in nyc for e-bikes depending on the class. You’re talking about 30 mph which means the bikes are illegal. Which fits with the riding behaviour demonstrated

My ebike tops out at 25 kph. I regularly get smoked by normal pushbikes. The thing my ebike is good for is deleting hills. I’ve never seen someone on an ebike make a pedestrian jump out of the way but I’ve seen cars do that on a regular basis

The left. The path entering on an angle doesn’t quite look right to me. Prefer the lack of colour on left one too, it’s less distracting

I can’t afford to purchase paper versions of the books I read. I read 100 books last year, at $40 each id never be able to afford it. Ebooks, especially the ‘pay what you want’ bundles are absolutely essential to me. I prefer to buy from Tor if possible as they have no drm

Alright alright you finally motivated me to change my icon. Mine is me standing in a motorbike helmet in front of a giant cow. It’s not art but it is unique 😂

It’s fascinating to me that you seem have been keen on high contrast square b&w for years compared to me where I bounce around between formats and aspect ratios on a weekly basis 😂
