This meeting could have been a fist fight.

A relief to hear this said. Trump operates from the same untested, blustering ideas he had in the 80s. They weren’t good then and even less so now. It would be great if BUSINESS LEADERS were prepared to say what they clearly know - that Trump only knows how to run a muscle racket. And here we are.

In a world of Gavin Newsoms, be a JB Pritzker

I think there’s probably power in being up against people who simply can’t conceive of anyone caring enough to act without being bribed to do so. It means that they cannot imagine, or thereby prepare themselves for, a driven opposition.

Adding a journalist to a top secret government group chat about dropping bombs *IS* the kind of thing people who aren’t super politically literate can understand and find shocking/notable/disqualifying. Dems should seize on this and never ever let it go. I hope to hear about it in a decade

Commissioner Bedoya nails it in this statement. Trump and his attack dogs are trying to dismantle the administrative state to serve the billionaires backing him. If we're to maintain any semblance of democracy, this illegal firing of principled regulators must not stand.

Was interviewed by the Hollywood Reporter about Trump's apparatchik at the FCC. It's all about beating the media into submission so that everything looks and sounds like Fox News. No dissent can be tolerated.

I think what is making everyone so angry isn’t just the cowardice of Senate Democrats, it’s their cowardice in comparison to the random normal person who runs for school board to oust a Moms for Liberty freak

All nation-state borders are artificial

Special Issue of Democratic Communiqué: Discourse about labor and unionization on digital media platforms in the new era of Musk and Trump 2.0. Deadline for full consideration is June 30, 2025

This is a great piece by @itsmccarthy.bsky.social & Rashida Tlaib and exactly how we should be thinking as we try to imagine rebuilding democracy for a post-Trumpian/Muskian future.

Boston considering its traditional methods of protest against tyranny at @teslatakedown.com this morning #TeslaTakedown

Oh you could say I dabble in Photoshop #teslatakedown @niedermeyer.online

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

Illinois had to lock up scores of politicians to get this governor, America...get to it.

#BlackHistoryMonth: Since the National Park Service wants to erase the T from Stonewall, let's spill the T through the Stonewall Community Foundation. The first story here is of Frances Thompson, a trans black activist born in 1840.

Some higher ed organizations who are loudly circling the wagons against federal funding cuts were oddly silent or circumspect about the earlier attacks on CRT and DEI. I wish there was a better understanding that these attacks are coming because we failed to repel those.

The ASL version of “Not Like Us” is magnificent.

Hilarious

Reviewers for NIH graduate student grants should stop work and allow no applications to proceed, since participating in this farce is, in the most literal way, upholding white supremacy.

whatever bespoke hypothetical thing you mean by "end social justice practices in the workplace", this version that they mean is the actual, concrete political project confronting labor and the left right now. move accordingly

attempting to describe the vibes of the moment. have yet to do better than: "imagine watching a documentary reenacting the burning of the Library of Alexandria set to the soundtrack of 'Yakety Sax'"

I remain fascinated by the expanded child tax credit case study & the implications for leftist policymaking. People received REAL financial benefit from it. It drastically cut child poverty rates and it was rescinded without a real fight. I think about this at least once a week.

Huge protest outside the USAID building today against Trump and Musk's illegal shutdown.

Just spitballing, but things that could happen today: *Court injunction protecting USAID *Dems demand hearings on Musk's role *Someone introduce articles of impeachment *Dem officeholders go to USAID offices with USAID workers *Refuse to conduct any more Senate confirmations until this is resolved

Please please please

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Former DOJ AG Bill Barr wrote in his book, "Kash Patel will run the FBI over my dead body." I wonder if that offer still stands.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

Hey some real fire from Tim Walz www.tiktok.com/t/ZT2YseKAh/

if we staff ICE with Uvalde police officers, they'll never enter schools

Resistance takes many forms.

What we have instead of an opposition party is a copy of Robert's Rules of Order that has learned how to do GoFundMes and insider trading

BREAKING: Philadelphia workers have won the first Whole Foods union under Amazon with UFCW. Since Amazon bought the chain, workers have lost benefits and felt the squeeze. Now they're fighting back against the multi-trillion dollar giant and hoping this win will be the first of many.

Keep in mind everything in this thread except came out in the last five months as opposed to the 180 years plus of police terror and resistance that Empire City explores.
