I became an ACLU member on January 20, 2017. I almost let my membership lapse on 1/20/21, but I had a suspicion that we might need that organization a little while longer.

Before this, I didn’t think Newsom had a very good shot at being the Dem nominee in ‘28. Now, he’s going to look heroic. Trump just did the governor a huge favor.

For our British friends, that’s about five heads of lettuce.

I’m guessing it’ll happen twice: once when he fakes his death to avoid prison, and a second time when he actually dies.

I hope you’re right about how we win. It’s getting harder and harder to have faith that victory can be achieved while maintaining the moral highground.

These painting are notoriously difficult to photograph! On my screen, it’s mostly dark gray, and I can just make out a slightly purplish dark gray in the upper third of the image.

Looking forward to the Cold War audiobook! (October?) BTW, will Mystic, The Monk Addison Files be released as an audiobook?

The theme songs to Green Acres, Mr Ed, Gilligan’s Island, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, The Monkees…

One of the things I love about this portrait is that it has a bit of a Phillip K Dick vibe, and I’m a big fan of his work as well as yours!

Exactly. This was a very believable parody until the part about Lindsey standing against something Trump approved of. 😄

Agreed. We really need to give up the shaming strategy. It might work on a few moderate Reps, but they’re in a very tiny minority. The majority of right wing politicians and pundits have absolutely no problem with hypocrisy, because their supporters and their audiences have no problem with it.

I think many people are having a hard time accepting that a lot of this information was indeed out there, that voters were aware of it, and the majority of them still went with Trump. I understand the difficulty. Who wants to admit they live in a country full of terrible people?

Ohio should have the same thing connecting Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. It’s crazy to me that there are no passenger trains in Columbus, the state capital!

This would matter if these folks cared at all about hypocrisy, but their supporters don’t, so they don’t. Just look at the stuff Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz said about Trump before they started kissing his ass.

“Your Honor, this isn't a fellow who was a criminal,” Chesnoff said. “This is a person who made a conscious decision to act patriotically and assist the United States government.” Wait…what? He assisted the gov’t by lying to it?

Absolutely stunning work. Even viewing it on a small screen, I just want to look and look and look.

I always think of a young Jonathan Banks when I see Stephen Miller, though of course Banks is a fine actor, and Miller is a piece of shit.

Sadly, he’ll probably be replaced with another Benedict XVI.

Shoot, now I’ve gone down the Joe Ledger quotes rabbit hole: “There are also several notes in your file suggesting that you are a world-class smartass." "Really? You mean I made it through the nationals?" Groucho-level comeback. 😂

“I'm not sure I could trust a man who would bypass an Oreo in favor of vanilla wafers. It's a fundamental character flaw, possibly a sign of true evil.” 😄

Wonderful light in this painting, and in many other paintings you’ve posted.

This is my favorite thing on Bluesky today… Maybe my favorite thing on the Internet this week.

Thanks to you, Cory Booker, Tim Murphy, Bernie Sanders, and a few others, the Senate Democrats look like they might (MIGHT) finally be waking up—not just saying that Trump is a threat to our country, but actually doing something about it. Thank you.

Glad you enjoyed it! MTV was a huge part of my high school years in the eighties, so this was a nice nostalgia hit for me. I believe the channel started doing the reality show stuff because it had to have shows that were a half hour or longer in order to get Nielsen ratings. Something like that…

I’m cool with it if it’s called “Mad Jesus” and it’s set in the Mad Max universe sometime in a post-apocalyptic future. Two thumbs up if Jesus uses that razor boomerang from Road Warrior to smite his enemies.

Didn’t his hard right turn coincide with finding out his kid was trans? He just couldn’t handle it, and blamed “woke” people for “killing” his “son.” What a small, pathetic p.o.s.

😄 I have heard that a few times. My name is very common (there are five of us in the university where I teach), but there really aren’t any SUPER famous Chris Taylors.

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m really pleased to see a crappy student paper. I think, “Great! Somebody wrote something on their own!” Doesn’t really help their grade (a bad paper is still a bad paper), but it does make me happy.

At this point, when it comes to SCOTUS and expanded presidential powers (at least for Trump), it’s not “if” but “when.” The majority of them are a disgrace.

I have to assume Jeremy Robinson does this, too. 60 novels in 20 years? 😮

I’m open to this interpretation of Schumer’s actions, but you’re absolutely right—If it’s true, it’s another example of how bad Dem leadership is at messaging.

…but just to be clear, he’s still a very dangerous piece of shit who can cause a lot of damage to our democracy—and already has.

This is why I don’t think Vance will be worse if he has to replace Trump. Yes, he’s far smarter than Trump and every bit as greedy and opportunistic—but people really don’t like him, let alone adore him. He lacks the charisma that a leader of a cult like MAGA needs.

Dems need to learn from Reps how to exercise power as the minority party.
