I live in Antigua Guatemala. Retired 8 years ago, moved here 2 years ago. What a great community. Very happy.

Met a 3-time Trump voter on the street today and he cursed Trump and Vance for threatening his Social Security pension. That 3rd rail is still hot!

She suggests getting chickens to raise in your backyard so we get bird flu from them and die?

“Very concerned”. But unwilling to do anything about anything. This is one voter from Mount Vernon, Maine who is sorry he ever had an ounce of respect for Susan Collins.

Solar is already a hair's breadth away from being competitive with new gas, without subsidies, in the US. And if we start exporting a bunch of gas as LNG (as we're planning), it will raise domestic gas prices, making solar the uncontested winner. Pretty much inevitable at this point.

Chuck Schumer is Palestinian? Trump confuses me more every day.

Wow! The Trumps both use corded landline phones?

Same here. After 2+ years of living in Guatemala, I figured out that the local Spanish-language networks are vastly better.

Political prisoners in the Human Slaughterhouse, Sednaya Military Prison, are about to be released. Many have been locked up for years with no contact with loved ones We’re all aware of the atrocities Assad and his Russian and Iranian backers have committed. We’re going to find out far worse things

Thank you for describing the Fisk murder in today’s “Letter”. Brought back memories of stories told me as a boy by my father (a historian). And provided great context.

It’s time to start paying very close attention to events in Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, the Baltics, Azerbaijan, Montenegro, and other locations where the Kremlin is working feverishly to establish and/or maintain its corrosive, utterly malevolent influence. Because America is on the very same road.

Lake Atitlan is gorgeous and has an interesting expat community. Our favorite place there is Santa Cruz la Laguna, because of the volcano views and the quiet. Jaibalito is also great.

Should add that Wicho & Charlie’s and Old Town Outfitters have good reputations locally for their volcano hikes.

We moved to Antigua Guatemala 2 years ago from Maine and love it. When we visited friends who winter in Costa Rica this past February we were shocked at how much more expensive it was.

Our Dawsey does same. Different barks for different folks. And dogs. Crooning bark for the beautiful black female dog who lives down the road.

Good point. We are going to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with 200 of our neighbors here in Antigua Guatemala. Many expats but many Guatemaltecos. Nice mix. And to make it even better, the meal is a benefit for a non-profit working to improve local education.

Trump and his advisors perhaps underestimated Mexico’s President because 1) a woman, 2) Jewish.

A Jewish woman, no less. Stephen Miller must be chomping at the bit.

Since moving to Guatemala from the US, I’ve adopted the local custom of exchanging good mornings or good afternoons with everyone you pass by on the street. All ages, even teenagers. We break into smiles as we greet one another. It’s wonderful!

“The Greenlanders” by Jane Sniley. It took me until 3/4rds of the way through the novel to realize it was about climate change. Really thought it was a Nordic saga, a la Sigrid Unset, before then.
