A lot of what appears inexplicable to some people can be explained by racism. I understand that it's out of fashion to say this.

first monday of unemployment is gonna be a totally normal first monday of unemployment www.politico.com/live-updates...

None of the top 10 Big Law firms have committed to signing an amicus brief in support of Perkins Coie. As Ben Wittes writes in his column for Lawfare today: “[A] very happy Liberation Day to all the law firms that have liberated themselves from their dignity.” www.nytimes.com/2025/04/02/b...

NEWS: Judge Dale Ho dismisses Eric Adams’s criminal charges WITH PREJUDICE. (This means he cannot be re-indicted on the same charges at some point in the future.)

Say what you will about Skadden's disgusting collaborationist cowardice but credit where it's due to their HR team, which recruits people who can WRITE write while they slam the door shut on their way out

He's been there about a year and a half. He is JUNIOR. For anyone not familiar with legal education and the legal industry, this is someone who has sunk probably hundreds of thousands of dollars and untold hours of work into getting to the top of a profession and he has the courage to do this.

beyond grateful for the opportunity to share and to connect with katie—

This was such an important conversation with @cohen489.bsky.social about Trump’s Executive Order attacks on private law firms & why they need to stand their ground: www.msnbc.com/katie-phang/...

“this responsibility does not end when profits are threatened by a burgeoning autocracy” is such a BANGER

while I had no prior knowledge of this (and in fact FT’d him to say ‘i am so proud of you and also what the fuck’), tom has some of the strongest principles of anyone i’ve ever known and i’m lucky to get to call him a friend. so proud of him i could burst.

NEW: Another Skadden attorney has resigned in protest, citing the law firm’s decision to strike a deal with Trump. “Skadden is on the wrong side of history. I could no longer stay knowing that someday I would have to explain why I stayed,” the lawyer, Thomas Sipp, wrote in his resignation letter.

NEW: I obtained a copy of the email that Skadden executive partner Jeremy London sent to employees of the law firm earlier today. The email details the “agreement” Skadden reached with Trump to avoid being targeted by an executive order.

A Skadden attorney resigned today, citing the firm’s decision to strike a deal with Trump amid pressure campaign on law firms. “[I]f my employer cannot stand up for the rule of law, then I cannot ethically continue to work for them,” the former Skadden lawyer, Brenna Trout Frey, wrote on LinkedIn.

some behind-the-scenes at skadden: head tech person inadvertently replied all to a farewell email reassuring jeremy and team (before settlement announced) that he was disabling more listservs and the email is no longer in anyone’s inbox lmao

the me of three weeks ago would never believe it possible that i could get proven right so drastically and immediately and nationally and be this mad about it

you may have seen that my (technically current) employer has been complying so far in advance that they went to the White House to negotiate against themselves well in advance of the eye of Sauron turning upon them. un/luckily, whispers of the same and gut instinct let us prep for this.

Literally laughing … i mean there’s obeying in advance and there’s obeying in advance of the EO! Skadden Arps is innovating in the space!

Going to share this absolutely CRUCIAL resource for people who want to create local ICE Watch Rapid Resource Teams. Head over to defendandrecruit.org, where you’ll find resources put together by Siembra NC. This includes an entire playbook on how to defend your community.

It's imperative to act before the bad thing happens. @cohen489.bsky.social and Contrarian contributor @barbmcquade.bsky.social are using their platforms to lay out how lawyers can stand up & speak out against the Trump administration's intimidation tactics.

On his last day at the law firm WilmerHale, an associate named Gilbert Orbea emailed his colleagues: “I implore all of us to cherish and defend the delicate pillars of our constitutional republic. We must resist their erosion…Please fight back. Please speak up. We owe it to future generations.”

Once again I ask: Do you get it yet, law firms? These orders aren’t isolated threats to Covington or Perkins or Jenner. They’re existential threats to the independence of the legal profession. You’re a fool if you think you won’t be next. Say something. Do something.

if only someone had pointed out he was going to keep doing this if the firms didn’t unite! if only 1500+ people in the industry had pointed it out!!! what a lost opportunity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could always get bumped, but at present i am scheduled for CNN this afternoon (bottom of the 1PM hour) and MSNBC this evening (the beat with Ari Melber). hope you can tune in (and that i don’t flop) xoxo

still blown away that i got to speak to Juana Summers at All Things Considered today. also feeling extremely grateful they ran that line about client perspective www.npr.org/2025/03/24/n...

the way…my former employer just had to forward me notice that i won a pro bono award that went to my work email on friday…….

contrarian.substack.com/p/jen-rubin-... EXCLUSIVE : big Law associate shames firms, explains the capitulation mindset

also, if you’re an associate at a firm on the EEOC list, please start putting feelers out re: associate recruiting/interviewing strike pending firm responses. we’ll have a toolkit for you no later than this week, but get the phone trees together pls

BREAKING: I will be requiring Anna Bower to describe me as “close personal friend and former Skadden associate” in future and she only got away with not doing so already bc I didn’t use bluesky prior (mea culpa) @annabower.bsky.social

many thanks to Jen and team for having me—let’s go yall, not too late yet.

Rachel Cohen, an attorney at a top corporate firm, publicly resigned from her position—citing the lack of action being taken by big law firms to resist the Trump regime. Cohen discussed her decision and the open letter signed by 1000+ big law attorneys inspiring others to act.
