Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes. You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment. My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc. www.reddit.com/r/Passports/...

It's "Giving Day" for Virginia Tech today. If you would like to help with my local county's scholarship fund, please drop a few dollars here. And we get bragging rights for the most donations separately from the most money, so $5 helps check that box. givingday.vt.edu/giving-day/9...

hey guys @beyer.house.gov @markwarner.bsky.social @kaine.senate.gov remember this?

Hey @markwarner.bsky.social where’s the front page news?

Remember that “DOGE” is pronounced “dodgy” as in “that’s a suspicious activity.”

School play gets canceled for "inappropriate content". In response students write [REDACTED], their own anti-censorship play skewering the school district, sells out performances, and ultimately takes gold at the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival. www.kqed.org/arts/1397192...

Here’s something I keep forgetting. Oxen come in all sizes, too.

We were at a musical yesterday with three interpreters performing together to cover the dialog, multitude of duets, and company works. ASL translation is a skill, an art, and a strong demonstration that multi-level communication leans into physical presentation.

We are a day and a half into having no power but the generator. I love my PHEV car because I have a full tank and get 40mpg even when I can't charge it.

Last night, I attended a briefing by an immigration lawyer regarding courses of action if ICE shows up to one of my classrooms. My biggest takeaway is “ICE agents are vampires.” They must be invited into any private space. So #1 is to label all space as private and then don’t let them in.

This morning, I started writing my Postcards to Swing States for the April 1st election in Wisconsin. It’s not much, but every bit counts. Persist, Resist, & Grow.

Are you talking to colleagues impacted by executive branch targeting? Here’s a thread 🧵 w/ simple tips about how to show support—what to say that is likely to help, rather than make things worse. (The tips are simple, but I try to explain the rationale behind them. So please follow to the end.) 1/

I've heard a number of people say, "I live in a safe blue district/state--there's no point in calling my reps since they're already on the right side." Yes, there is: You can call and insist that they be among the loudest voices on the issues you care about, since they can afford to be.

Happy 100th anniversary to the twenty-plus Alaskan Native mushers and the two Norwegians for the run to Nome. Balto and Togo and all the dogs, too. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1925_se...

Have you called your reps today? 5calls.org has a good list of thing to mention. Have an octopus sock.

Time for some American Exceptionalism. We are *exceptional* pains in the ass.

hey so for estradiol/progesterone/spiro, technically we can fill a year’s worth at a time like your insurance will only pay for 30-90 days but if your doctor sends in a years worth of refills we can fill the rest of it on GoodRx same day (next day, we’ll have to order that much in) just FYI

Ok, so today’s a call-twice kind of a day. This time I pressed 2 to speak to a staffer rather than just leaving a message.

Second this so so much. Find an active tactile hobby, like an outdoor sport, hiking, or making/fixing/building something w your hands. It helps your brain process thoughts & emotions in ways that passively watching screens can’t quite achieve. It’s like the mental equivalent of a healthy meal!

Hunh. I almost have my senators' phone numbers memorized now. Have some hedgehog socks.

Look. No one is coming to save us, and so we must save each other. Meet your community. Organize with them to make sure children are fed and elders are warm. Take care of the most vulnerable among you.

I just called both my senators and my congressional rep and it took like five minutes. Please call!

I could talk about the Challenger explosion anniversary today. Or I could talk about my cute Nessie socks. Have some socks. And say a prayer of remembrance for our friends in history.

I love everything about this.

It's been a seriously unfun week for multiple reasons, but this was seven and a half minutes of pure delight. Okay, fifteen... I've watched it twice now. So far. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDxY...

Yup. Microsoft automatically switched me to the $99.99/year version with Spicy Autocomplete. You have to go all the way through "cancel subscription" to be presented these options and get the $69.99/year one you actually chose.

It is currently zero degrees outside. A complete lack of degrees is, in fact, startling for this area. I don’t want to hear it from *anyone* that I don’t have goat kids until March.

I just reached out to my senators about the NIH situation. If you need to find out how much impact NIH has in your state in terms of dollars in and their economic impact here's a link: www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...
