One council person was like I agree with you but voting against you anyway. I get they have to make the laws for everyone but why tell me you don’t agree with how you’re voting? Because if they had voted no, it would have been a tie, and it would have died and we would have won. 🧵

I spoke last night at a town council for work. I was well prepared, passionate about the subject, and had done research on the council members. It didn’t go how I wanted, but I am on record with my statement, including science-based data, and now now I know I can do it. 🧵

It’s good reframing.

Hmm. I like how you have flipped the script for me. I’m going to ruminate some more.

Great idea but it’s never really been fair for everyone.

#kimreynolds #iowa #trans #transrightsarehumanrights #iowanice #protecttranskids @raygunsite.com I REALLY need that Indy store, because I just can’t shop in Iowa anymore.

Iowa has, sadly, become “the old country”. A land my family will hear about, but maybe never get to experience through their own eyes. I will always have people in Iowa. I will always cheer on Iowa and buy Iowan. Tell stories about Iowa with love. But I can no longer consider myself IOWAN 💔💔💔

How can I, as a mother, safely and consciously show my family the lands and people that fully shaped me into the woman I am today? How can I take them to see the rolling hills, cheer on my beloved UNI panthers, or just take in the wonders of the cities? Meet the so-called Iowa Nice People? 🧵

This child, without knowing it was a thing or the words for it, knew they didn’t match their body. They were scared to tell us, but we’ve raised our kids with open honesty. We helped them find the words. We took them to a therapist to work through these feelings. But this is our reality. 🧵

Unfortunately. That all came to a screeching halt this weekend when you chose, despite your constituents voices, to end civil rights and protections for trans people. I have a child that is trans. We did everything “right”. Religious upbringing, Catholic school, very little internet exposure. 🧵

The family that lovingly and without question accepted me when I was adopted as an infant. Friends who have known me since preschool and are like sisters to me. The village that surrounded my parents through unfathomable loss. The old church ladies that prayed for me on my wedding day. Iowa nice. 🧵

We eat at my old favorite haunts (that are still open), never missing a slice at Casey’s, a Maid Rite or a Tasty Taco. We grab Anderson Erickson, Grazianos, and Gino’s products for the trip back to Indiana. Most importantly, we visit our people. People who would give the shirt off their backs. 🧵

When I’ve visited my parents, family, and life-long friends, I’ve enjoyed taking my kids and husband to see my memories of growing up in Iowa. SEC Taylor stadium, Iowa State Fair, Blank Park Zoo, Effigy Mounds, Botanical Center where we married, Grotto of Redemption, the Sculpture Park, and more.

I cheer for Iowa celebrities. I collect cow print things even! I come from a family of farmers and immigrants with rich cultural history, but think Des Moines is one of the greatest cities in the country. Big city convenience, trending scene, clean streets, nice people. Iowa Nice as they to say. 🧵

Iowa is who I am. When I am at events or parties or even the store, I inevitably meet someone from Iowa. In fact, I met a fellow Iowan at Edinburgh Castle last fall. Like any good Iowa girl living in Indiana, I cheer for Caitlyn Clark, despite being a life-long Cyclone. I support Iowa businesses. 🧵

Apparently our school system is white washing social media and websites this week. I sent in a tip that they are doing great work and they should be extra funded!

I don’t disagree with you there. But I don’t think it’s Kamala job. We didn’t listen to her enough in September October and November.
comment in response to post
Kamala? What is she supposed to be doing? She’s a private citizen, not an elected official. Where are our actual elected officials? Blame them.

I have thin hair and a bob. I wonder if the sleepy tie would work?

We had a vote in November. Either we massively fucked up or it was stolen.
