You are the best! Everything we’ve heard is that what resonates most are the individual stories & using those to demonstrate broader implications. Anyone, anywhere impacted or with people in their lives impacted (aka everyone) by these cuts has an important voice in this fight

My pleasure! Highlight of my week was learning yesterday that disability advocates in South Dakota were asked to do community teach-ins on the implications of Medicaid cuts and Texas v Becerra. Things are happening!

National Health Law Program (NHeLP) has an amazing series of Medicaid defense webinars, handouts, etc on how to take action. My org also putting together a faces of Medicaid project that I will link below! We had an advocates call yesterday with 60+ across the country (including territories)!

Completely serious take: A backyard sports revival with pros & no in app purchases would not just be nostalgic for 90s/00s kids but important to combat this

It is not! It took years of groundwork but in NJ the party machine has basically collapsed over the past 18 months.

The part that seems really tricky is the different deadlines/procedures for primaries. Tho I may be overstating this because my state (NJ) Andy Kim successfully challenging our ballots that made it almost impossible to primary incumbents last year. Now we have a 6 way primary for Gov.

Just spitballing but I think you need a small but visible group of current and former reps (especially progressives from red/purple states) running on a clear "line" a la Justice Democrats to endorse a slew of primary challengers to corporate Dems.

I was lucky enough to take Civil Rights Law with Prof. Azmy a semester he was visiting at my school- he is a true living legend.

That cannot be real lmao

Murphy became the person he used to clown but somehow most of the first three albums still hold up (for me at least)? Losing my Edge remains an all timer

Oo will read. A related larger critique/observation about the wellness industrial complex writ large, but I’d love to see serious discussion (and this may exist already) about activities that are not “physically healthy” but make people feel good/have fun. A sort of anti-wellness wellness

I’d go further and gander a vocal minority would challenge the premise that cigarettes/second hand smoke can cause cancer

Halt and Catch Fire is a great show for many reasons, but felt so realistic in how this played out

During the Ranch Style Home bridge even the merch crew were screaming “THIS IS SO GOOD”. Left that show in 1/2020 thinking they were about to really break through what a great band

It is one of the best albums of the 2010s. Planes in Front of the Sun is an all timer as well

Post Sioux-Falls but this inevitably makes my Spotify top 100 every year. And sounded just unreal live open.spotify.com/track/7m6J8Z...

BK firing Atkinson was the original mistake that enabled the ensuing nonsense. So happy he has another chance with a team like this

The hamstring follow alongs were torture the first few times but clearly helped me right away

for the stretching and bodyweight type exercises, I’ve found this Youtube channel enormously valuable. He does a great job explaining the routines in follow along. I do not understand how one can enjoy stretching this much but I respect it youtube.com/@bodyweightw...

To be clear- machines look less cool! But the tradeoff is like avoiding lower back surgery
comment in response to post
I’ve slowly recognized that like 85% of himbo weightlifting culture/strategies are just roundabout ways of trying to justify non-machine work for the simple fact that it looks and feels less cool lol

Have you tried cold brewing at home? I 1000% agree with this in coffee shops/restaurants but making at home with a Toddy has been a revelation for lighter bean roasts

(to be clear- I don’t think Dallas would be unjustified I would just hate if Jerry got that satisfaction lol)

Yeah he ran really hard (esp in the second half) behind a massively overmatched O-line

I could post 700 more times about this but will try to exercise some discretion- lol

And from a policy perspective the IMD Exclusion enshrined completely cost incentives for I/DD care in the community vs SMI. But that’s the cart not the theory/academic horse
comment in response to post
Absolutely. This is a question that I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about (primarily from a legal lens) and have resigned myself to believe it was in large part about aesthetic perceptions of I/DD vs SMI and racializing personality disorder criteria in the 60s

I guess what I meant by that is I’m not sure he’s well known across the broader public interest left and his writing illustrates how slippery the slope can get when framing disabilities as strictly social constructs

I was trying to lawyerly say the same with ambivalent- lol! In this house we stan Basaglia as far as mid 20th century radical psychiatrists go
comment in response to post
Can also very much relate to this experience re: Szasz. I’m both ambivalent toward him but also wish more non-disability focused activists/scholars on the left engaged with his writing? He confuses me to put it mildy

I’ve shared this from @awaisaftab.bsky.social with many people because it’s one of the very few clinician-authored materials describing the process www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

A few seasons ago he did this for a reward was a full roast chicken shared by 3 people. No sides, water, or utensils. Top tier stuff

@slooterman.bsky.social Thank you for RTing this. Disability Rights Idaho filed and won a pretty significant P&A records access case against a county coroner’s office in 2016. I never understood why the coroner was so steadfast in their denial www.justice.gov/crt/file/833...

Grasping at straws here because there will be considerable, probably irreparable damage done but the gross incompetence and egos of these appointees will make things so combustible

I remember like two or three years ago listening to him on Pablo Torre's podcast and him seeming relatively rational/his 2010s Twitter self more or less

I don't want to psychoanalyze but it's probably a mix of the rush (a la gambling), and culture/feedback loop surrounding it. For him specifically, I also wonder if his emphatic failure with the Mavs bred resentment that led him down that rabbit hole
