It makes me proud of Canada how fast their entire country came together to tell us to get bent when we so richly deserve it. That's the mark of a true friend.

Plausible deniability. This way it's harder for Trump to sue them for defamation or something. Because you know he'd try.

That's exactly how I feel when people admire Bezos and Musk and their space fascination. Like they designed their own rockets, filled the tanks with whatever, mapped the charts etc and so forth. They profited off the work of others then patted themselves on the back over and over.

That's easy! You don't!

Even if they have to make it up.

They see it the way Law and Order sees Miranda rights: a thing that stops Those People from being punished. They don't care what it means or that it protects them as much as the people they hate. They only know that it's in their way.

Self-identified "conservatives" neither understand nor care about the US Constitution or its principles and they never have or will. Their only guiding "principles" are and have always been simply Power, Privilege, and Property. They will say anything to achieve their ends and think that's ok.

you have to see the danger RFK Jr represents and the harm he wants to cause in the context of the Parental Rights Movement. it is absolutely central.

imagine having to officially celebrate the heritage of being a bunch of racist fuckin losers for a whole month every year

Oh they're still doing that too. They're really good at hating multiple groups at the same time.

What an incredible example of journalistic malpractice.

It seems step-family shaming is the Republicans' next culture war move. Been in the background for ages but got brought to the forefront during the election with the while Childless Cat Lady thing.
comment in response to post
Keeping up with the shaming of step-parents narrative that came to the fore during the election, I see.

Yeah no I totally know that feeling

/ They only started being considered white when civil rights for black people became a thing, and bigoted white Americans (almost exclusively Protestants) were willing to "count them as white" to bolster their numbers against those civil rights. Most white bigots still hate Catholics.
comment in response to post
At the time and until very recently historically speaking(like, the 60s and 70s), "Catholic" was associated with Irish and Italian immigrants, who weren't considered white then. Cont/

Just the fear all Republicans have: that they'll be ostracized from the party and lose access to wealth and power if they get on Dear Leader's bad side.

Don't waste your breath. You're arguing with an anti-progressive - just check her posts. Same exact box as JKR. BAMO.

HONESTLY it's really not & I'm sorry you feel that way. JKR's politics involve maintaining the status quo at all costs. She has a character mocked by her friends for... being against slavery. the entire slavery arc wraps up with "it's ok if you're nice to them and they like it!" which is fully nuts

"Tariff" seems to be Trump's new favorite word and he's just throwing them at everything. He doesn't know or care how they actually work, they're the thing he's into these days and that's what he's gonna use.
comment in response to post
Hells, a lot of people STILL don't consider them white, especially in the US. If you're from further east than Germany, you're Not European Enough for many.

My first lasted about 12 before it essentially fell apart. I traded it in for like $300 off my new car because it was literally worth only as scrap metal, not even parts. Had my current car 7 years, but I'll be selling it soon as I'm moving overseas and won't be taking it with me.

Yep. Remember the whole "happy ending" of the story is the handful of bad people dying or going back into hiding and getting away with it (Malfoys), and everything "Going Back To Normal". Harry becomes a cop, Hermione abandons all her progressive policies to become magic president.

As I understand it, she started out in a "I hate all men" sort of way at some point, then backed off from that (in part I believe because she's still attracted to men, and in part because she decided she didn't want to fight the patriarchy) and switched trans women in as placeholders.

I can't tell from this whether you know where that pen name came from or not, but for "fun," check out histories of Robert Galbraith Heath. arstechnica.com/science/2016...
