Astonishing and consistent incompetence. Pretty much the M.O. of the GOP for 50 years. Too bad the American voter has the memory of a fruit-fly.

Hegseth, an embarrassing National Guard captain who jumped rank by taking a cushy Fox News gig after nearly bankrupting not one but two veteran-branded benefit organizations. You aren't going to like that guy

If the choice is between selling out an entire group of people to an attempt to wipe them from existence or shutting down, you shut down Not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it's not gonna stop here. It never stops here. And the sooner that hits people the better.

10.) (for all of the Democrats in office) Failing to make the point that Trump is jeopardizing US national security, both through his dipshit pseudo-negotiation and replacing every major area of US security infrastructure with incompetent loyalists, is a completely unforced error...

9.) If someone believes (as Trump and the modern GOP do) that we're in basically a Cold War posture with China, then these are the worst possible strategic mistakes. Most of the major figures in GOP foreign policy (including Rubio) know this, but they've subordinated this to self-preservation.

will result in massive wins for Chinese firms in strategic regions, including basically all of South Asia, west and central Africa, and even eastern Europe. These errors are totally unforced. The US could have gotten what Trump wants *without* alienating ourselves from the rest of the world.

7.) Per above, Trump has provided the greatest windfall to Chinese long term development and economic strategy in the Xi era. 8.) The decision to ignore the interests of low- and middle-income countries poised to expand digital technology (both generally and the Paris AI summit specifically)...

Many African, South American, and Central Asian countries that already were (rightly) skeptical of US negotiations are now going to say "oh, actually, you're worse than the Chinese" and just opt to go with Chinese offers associated with Belt and Road.

6.) As the US attempts to engage in negotiations over mineral rights to secure a supply chain essential to major US industries (including and especially the tech industry), we've given away any expectation of good faith and soft power in those negotiations...

4.) It is basically certain that this will alienate the US in all future trade and diplomatic dealings in eastern Europe for the next 10-30 years, because the US will be regarded as an extortionate, bad faith actor comparable to Russia and China. 5.) This will impact US negotiating everywhere.

2.) The US will get *some* mineral rights, because it's actually good for Ukraine to have long term US investment in their country. It's part of the security guarantees we want. 3.) It's very likely that the US will get *less* in mineral rights, because of Trump/Waltz's extortionate approach.

The standard for mainstream media has become that Trump policies are baked-in and only those who oppose him have any agency.

Most Republicans have no actual ideological preferences beyond personal power and enrichment, so when it becomes obvious their constituents are going to throw them out anyway the threat of a primary challenge from Trump and Musk loses its edge. Do more of this.

Nervous Musk, Trump, Vance have all been outclassed in public arguments these last few days. Government failure, stock market crash, and dictatorial alliances are not popular. People are starting to realize that there is no truth here beyond the desire for personal wealth and power. (2/2)

By the time the heads down/quiet lawsuits strategy plays itself out, even in the best case scenario, massive individual and institutional damage - some of which will be irreparable - will already have happened.
