hmmm that’s weird. I’m at a rock show of a band I loved 20 years ago and most of the audience is gray-haired or bald. yet I am in the bloom of youth and very cool. something to monitor.

Lovely day at Moonstone Beach

Looking upstream from the mouth of Santa Rita Creek (Moonstone Beach, Cambria Creek, CA)

Inlet migration at the mouth of Santa Rita Creek (Cambria, CA). The inlet is slowly cutting into its south bank and migrating down the beach.

Just a reminder: having a functional moral compass right now is going to make you feel bad all the time; don’t mistakenly hate yourself for that.

Hey Bay Area friends, see below from Kathy Boyer on what we can all do to save the EOS center

This is blood-boiling. Charles Rogers was awarded the Medal of Honor in Vietnam after being wounded three times leading the defense of a position. Google his name and the entry below comes up. When you click, you'll see the page has been deleted and the URL changed to include "DEI medal."

Tbh, if he keeps releasing water from Lake Success and Lake Kaweah, he’d accidentally restore #TulareLake … so uhh, maybe we just keep it going?

Giving up our global R&D advantage to score political points

Glad to see someone finally bringing attention to USGS!

Listen to Dr. Rick Spinrad, NOAA administrator under the Biden Administration, discuss how Trump's dismantling of NOAA increases the dangers for people in the U.S.

Pop Tart is calzone?

We can’t afford to FAFO on this one. Spread the word

Dear world, please do not judge us harshly. Most of us are good-caring people, and we hate him too.

Spotted near NOAA 💙 (source www.reddit.com/r/NOAA/s/qfW...)

James Webb Satellite took a fantastic shot of the Planet Saturn with it's Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI). This is just an Amazing shot that shows the planet and the rings in brilliant detail.

Current status: we're smuggling eggs in from Mexico now. So let's talk about WHY Mexico's egg industry has been stable- while US egg prices are through the roof! 1. Mexico puts people in jail for price-fixing. 2. Mexico lets farmers vaccinate their chickens against bird flu.

Of the Chiefs of Staff, vice chiefs of staff, and judge advocates general of the three branches, Trump fired all the women and Black people.

What Is NOAA? - A Primer

Over 600 undergrad workers at Clark have filed to unionize with the Teamsters. Organizing in the face of the coming legal crackdown on unions, esp. higher ed unions, is a brave and necessary refusal to comply in advance. All solidarity to these workers.

This administration deserves zero benefit of the doubt, on any action. Completely unsurprising

I'm a reporter at the SF Chronicle hoping to speak with scientists who were impacted by the government firings. Specifically NOAA scientists, especially those in California. Open to hearing from you on the record, off the record or anonymously. email: [email protected] DMs open

I love all my friends saying things like, “I wish I could make a career off being petty and making diss tracks” after the halftime show, and I’m out here like, “Have you considered academia?”

Thank you @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social & @chenoweth.bsky.social for this both insightful and inspiring interview on democratic resistance. 🙏 I needed that.

This is SO good. You'll read the first instalment (linked in the article), then this, the second, find out it's going to be a regular Saturday feature, and immediately subscribe. I couldn't recommend something more:

Relict lagoon mouth channel at Crissy Field this morning

friendly reminder that the best case scenario over the coming years is that a lot of people say "I supported Trump but this isn't what I wanted at all" and when they do that it's gonna be really, really important that we say "welcome in," not "fuck you, we told you so"

LGBTQ+ people outlived the nazis before and we'll do it again. Together.

I can’t believe this is real. Porterville is my hometown. There’s no reason for the gov’t to do this other than to make it look like they are ‘sending water to help with the fires’, but the water flows north!

This is my favorite picture of Stonewall. They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+. Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them. I think about it a lot in moments like this.

The thing about science is that if a phenomenon such as climate science weren’t real, they wouldn’t need an executive order forbidding its study. The better we explain the social processes of science, the clearer it will be to everyone that this EO is an admission that climate change is real.

Spotted a black-crowned night heron chillin’ with a decoy owl in Oakland today

Gavin Newsom launched a website to combat the wildfire disinformation spreading about Los Angeles, because people can’t be bothered to do a simple Google search before sharing nonsense. And because people suck! Get the facts: californiafirefacts.com

More from #KingTide lows yesterday off of West Cliff
