Current status: we're smuggling eggs in from Mexico now.
So let's talk about WHY Mexico's egg industry has been stable- while US egg prices are through the roof!
1. Mexico puts people in jail for price-fixing.
2. Mexico lets farmers vaccinate their chickens against bird flu.

Incredible.
The US is just not even closed to a developed nation.
It’s more profitable to get paid in full with subsidies when they all have to be culled and burned bc you caused another outbreak by continually maximizing profits and cutting every corner possible to never let up on it.
Enjoy your cheap nuggets.
Rock salt, on the other hand, is like the new TP.

The whole “now you must keep your eggs in the fridge because we wash not vaccination against salmonella” thing still irritates me 15 years after moving from the U.K.
They get paid in full with subsidies when they wipe out another county with an outbreak precipitated by cut corners, anyway.
Why would they bother doing anything differently?
We can’t event wear a mask when we know we are contagious, here.
Just gonna insert myself to say I love your commentary and Im so happy to see your posts again
This has been going on long enough that culls have hit two cycles of replacement layers, so the cost on the production side is huge. They don't operate with huge margins, and their costs are largely fixed.
But if they do start making eggless mixes, it will be a big sign.

It's more visible to me than randomly seeing news about farmers being told to do that.
So the US has been culling birds instead.
Seems like there's other solutions to prevent transmission during vaccinations but 🤷♀️

Hard enough for humans to armor up and fortify resistances after development/regulatory/social barriers (I would know, I was vaccinating and swabbing for tests in pandemic pharmacy school), I really shouldn't be surprised that trade joins in on the reasoning melee.
