I get to use your line against you: This is different than the 4-team era in that it’s easier/more common to not play the best teams in your own conference because of conference size. How many 11-2 power conference teams had zero top 25 wins? The games do matter, SMU wasn’t good enough in them

I don't see why it's not a full loss. There aren't enough data points on teams to not use every game. We know they're not as good as Clemson (or BYU) and have 0 top 25 wins, which puts SMU outside the top 12. Forget Alabama, SMU shouldn't be in the top 15

Teams have always been punished for losing in conference championship games, even when it made no sense. See 2007 Mizzou not getting into a BCS bowl
