A few thoughts on Universal Basic Income.

The attacks on DEI are a pretext for a much more radical agenda of reversing the gains of the civil rights movement, an objective the Trump administration is pursuing with zeal. A Great Resegregation. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

I am a teacher and this is pretty much where I'm at

The Trump regime's segregationist agenda is clear. I argue that having a Black man as president of white America enraged a portion of this country so much, that they decided to destroy any pipeline to Black advancement in academia, government, & workplaces. karenattiah.substack.com/p/trumps-seg...

This is why JD Vance was in Europe claiming that the US values free speech. It is part of the imperial project to force Europe to allow Nazi incitement like the US allows.

Elon is hiring criminals to work for DOGE because it is a criminal conspiracy

just a reminder, the fascists don’t actually have the power they are projecting yet. they also do not have the means to control every American if they were to try and enact some form of policestate. They cannot control this country and they cannot kill enough of us to stop them from losing control

Not an exaggeration. We are living through a geopolitical earthquake and the future of the planet depends on people recognizing that and, sadly, that the United States government is no longer on the side of democracy, the rule of law, the international order, progress, security or decency.

It was never going to be just trans people.

I'm trying to give more of my attention to the kinds of people who have an affirmative vision for the world we will build on the other side of this. We're not just gonna fix democracy. We will house the homeless, establish a minimum guaranteed income and a maximum income, and have Medicare for all.

WYOMING: “Thank you, Madam chairman.” “I prefer ‘Mister’ chairman.” “Well you all voted preferred pronouns cannot be compelled speech.”

Nothing says "coup" quite like a loyalty test for the military! Taken to its logical conclusion: Mump will direct the US military against American citizens. Congress, are you still happy giving up all of your power and authority?

It is mind-boggling to me that people say "but I had to comply with the fascists because otherwise there would be some cost—" NO FUCKING KIDDING. Did you think you'd never have to make a hard choice in Fascist America? That you wouldn't be asked to sacrifice someone and be rewarded for it?? JFC

Just a reminder that fascists, authoritarians, dictators of all stripes destroy archives— books, museums, databases, &c— because those things provide windows onto a plurality of other ways we might organize the world. And so preserving, defending, and spreading that knowledge harms those regimes.

Remember when John Roberts gutted the Medicaid expansion because he said the *offer* of medicaid money was too coercive to the states bsky.app/profile/atru...

I understand cynicism and hopelessness at a time like this and cynics may well be right, but if people are pissed off and want to make a better world because they see this one is failing I don’t see any better choice than everyone pushing forwards together and believing we can do it

The minute I saw this update tonight, I said, "And there it is." Comstock Act

You can tell Nancy Mace stopped paying attention to biology after the first month of 5th grade because 1 in 500 people born with male phenotypes have XXY chromosomes and 1 in 20K born as “biological males” actually have XX chromosomes. Even “biological sex” isn’t actually binary anywhere in nature.

Kristie Higgs said that all LGBT+ people want to sexually assault children and Jan Moir wants to know "Are you thinking what she's thinking?"

He sounds worse than Biden at the debate

Elon Musk's AI platform has been retrained to generate a "both sides" response to whether climate change is a threat. One is the view of science, while the other is fossil fuel industry waffle.

This is 100% on the mark, worth reading. Silicon Valley isn't in the tech business. Few people get rich by creating truly innovative new tech. LOTS of people have gotten rich by creating something of minor significance and then running pump-and-dump schemes premised on innovations that aren't there.

70 year old Senator Tommy Tuberville can’t think of the word “triangle”

I know we talk about this constantly but it is truly one of the greatest mindfucks of my lifetime. as an 80s kid a Nazi was the most unambiguously, nonnegotiably evil thing you could even be ADJACENT TO, like morality for kindergarteners, and now we have to relitigate that shit every day???? ffs

📢 “He’s trying to steal Medicaid to enrich himself. He’s gutting NASA to line his pockets with SpaceX. He’s looting everything good in America for private profit.” - @aoc.bsky.social at today’s #SaveOurServices NYC rally. The fight isn’t over. Join us: go.savepublicservices.com

Every god damned Democratic leader making a speech should just copy some version of this. Say what is happening, say who’s doing it, show that you’re angry.

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

When ordered by Nazis to give lists of disabled people by disability severity, some doctors sent back exaggerated data to protect patients from forced work They didn't know that the "most disabled" were to be killed first The moral here isn't to tell the truth It's to never co-operate with Nazis

These are the kinds of stories about the human costs of the Trump-Musk coup that desperately need telling right now. Local news outlets and independent journalists can do a lot of important work here, for their own communities but also for the national effort to push back against this insanity.

Trumpists will continue to be furious at any dissent no matter how much power they steal. That’s because the administration is premised on pathological insecurity. They’re shitty people, they know it, and they will never stop resenting being seen as shitty people.

"Project 2025 approved SSA administrator steps down just 3 weeks into the administration, giving up a GS-15 career in the process, because she knew even one more week on the job would risk putting her in prison for decades" is a very good and comforting sign (Musk's touching the stove)

More than anything, they do not want jobs that anyone can rely upon, thrive in, and enjoy.

People in tech talk about the idea of a “10x programmer” — someone whose work is worth that of 10 others. I get the impression Musk etc think they can apply it all over the federal workforce but like… there’s no such thing as a 10x ATC navigational aid maintenance worker. Some jobs just need people.

The geniuses at the Democratic Party settling on “maybe we were too woke” rather than “a cabal of billionaire pedophile Nazis are stealing your money and taking a sledgehammer to your future” is astonishing. Just one of those things

Folks, we're beyond the point where DEI is the stated reason for firing people. It remains the basis for eliminating some programs and some documentation -- and also remains an error-ridden process triggered to keywords, not content. But at this point Trump is just firing bureaucrats.

Over the weekend, 2 law professors published a terrible oped on birthright citizenship in the NYT which is being widely read, disseminated. They didn't do the required historical research & never even mention Reconstruction or the legislative intent. I did. Birthright citz is black letter law. 👇

Nothing to worry about, just an administration official suggesting that the DOJ may prosecute a member of Congress for advising people about their rights. Happening right now. Right in front of us.

The greatest political scandal today is not what Trump is doing. It is the fact that congressional Republicans have given up their role in the constitutional system as a check on the executive branch. If we are in a constitutional crisis, it is as much on Mike Johnson and John Thune as anyone else.

i tell this story every time these old photos come up but: I remember in film school one of my classmates asked what about film chemistry in the 1970s caused everything shot in NYC to look so brown and grimy and our professor was like "that wasn't the film, that's just what the air looked like here"

silicon valley is going to destroy america

What a powerful statement. Media should be profiling this person and highlighting this story, as one specific example of the havoc that Musk/Trump are creating. It would cut against the narrative that DOGE is about “waste” or “efficiency.”
