Repost & like, if you stand with President Zelensky!

I came to Bluesky to talk wine, not politics. But I’m simply aghast at how supine Americans are. Your president has just shat over your constitution, your democracy, your history and your allies. Today, we’re not interested in your thoughts on wine. We’re interested in your thoughts on humanity.

What an utterly disgraceful spectacle. Putin must be laughing his head off. The democracies of Europe now stand alone in fighting Russian and US fascism. That’s now clearer than it has ever been.

The FT is calling the US "an unabashed predator".

Utterly disgusting. This is extortion. The US government is now a criminal operation, an ally of Russia and an enemy of European democracies.

"Integrity, integrity, integrity"? Pay all your judges. Pay all your judges. Pay all your judges.

My first attempt at piccalilli, bottled a month ago. Doesn’t look amazing, but tastes better than any version I have bought in a shop.

Then why not allow estates to use Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac, Saint-Julien and Margaux? This just seems like a pointless compromise (like most appellation decisions, I suppose).

Lovely wine, terrible packaging - number 249,326 in an occasional series.

We shouldn’t be surprised. Trump is just doing what the US government did in the 1930s. Observing a fascist aggressor and the countries it threatens and working out how it can make as much money as possible out of both sides. Europe needs to be absolutely solid in backing Ukraine.

Your body is a temple? Mine is a wine cellar.

We opened up hundreds of bottles last week for students preparing to take the MW exam in a couple of months. It was really noticeable how reticent the MWs were about tackling wax capsules!

“Perhaps more pertinently, given widespread public ignorance of viticulture and the (complex but still fairly straightforward) processes of natural winemaking, why is it that wine must be controlled to conform to the market’s demands, and not vice versa?” Maybe because you need people to enjoy it?

My current assessment of world politics.

Americans look at Trump and increasingly like what they see. Terrifying.

Remembering my thoughts when I first noticed that Pavillon Blanc de Château Margaux only qualified for the lowly generic Bordeaux AOC, I don’t think the younger me had this particular solution in mind.

Some very healthy cynicism from @simonjwoolf.com. Scores give the illusion of precision and consistency. I don’t even think they are much good for their small target market. And critics are incentivised to over-score for clout, causing further devaluation. themorningclaret.com/p/are-wine-s...

They make excellent, fresh and vibrant Garnachas in McLaren Vale. It's like a faraway Gredos.
