Ooft, he seems like a real piece of work.. 😬

I played around with the opening scenario online and it seemed pretty straightforward. Love the idea of the political dimension though, that's what really intrigues me.

War of the Ring is an obsessive rabbit hole though. One minute you're painting minis, the next you're sculpting and making strongholds - next minute you wonder where the years went 🤣

Such an interesting looking game. Just waiting for the reprint. Although online is probably a great option, not sure my family would appreciate it taking up the table for the time it'd take to play a full game!

Total chef's kiss for those maps 👍

The V&A is full of beautiful copies of things. Scan them and make hyper realistic copies and put the originals back to the Parthenon where they belong. Right thing to do and would create a load of jobs in creating them.

Looking forward to giving it a try. Need to brush up on the differences between this and Friedrich first!

I don't help myself by drifting back to old favourites when there's plenty of new stuff to be punched and set up instead (Italia 1917-1918 arrived, but somehow I've managed to put 1866 on the table instead 🤷)

Worst thing about (late) middle age is the realisation that you have more games than years left.. 🤣

I'm always worried about a misfire with this type and you end up pinging the counter halfway across the room like a pumpkin seed!

Great. Just bought Italia 1917-1918 yesterday. Looking forward to playing it over the Xmas period.

Can remember reading this on the London Tube on my way to work (followed by Caesar's Gallic Wars). Good times!

So much for the unspoken social contract that our kids would inherit a better standard of living than us... Glum times ahead I fear.

Totally agree James, still think it's head and shoulders above the others. Imperium is perfectly pleasant, but for me the theme is pretty thin. Dune, Blackbeard and Republic of Rome were the gaming staples of my group right through the 80's and 90's

He's unflushable at the moment, but the toilet brush of justice will eventually push him round the bend

Can't think of another poem that conveys the stillness and beauty of a snowfall better than this. And how often have I quoted the last lines..

I thought the Luther movie with Joseph Fiennes was pretty decent too. Well worth a watch for Here I Stand fans.

Socks off? I'll have none of your new fangled deviancy here, thank you very much!

I sincerely hope you were able to say "ansom cab guv'nor" - no game of Gaslight is complete without it 😁

Squinty stickers look awful. I use the tip of a scalpel to lift them and manoeuvre them into place - keeps my sausage fingers out of the way!

I remember when the posh end of our family came to visit. Brought a SLIDE PROJECTOR with pics of their holiday to Disneyland... Wealth beyond all imagining 😳

Both fantastic films. Col. Blimp was way ahead of it's time, and has absolutely dazzling technicolour cinematography. Love it.

Was just about to shout 'What, no War of the Ring?!' - then realised that you have the greeny brown box edition (the white box with the Mike Ploog LotR Film Artwork was the first game I ever bought) 👍

It does feel like a momentum shift. Quickly becoming a self fulfilling prophecy - I'm here coz you guys are here!

This War Without An Enemy is such an excellent game by the way, cheers 👍

It's an excellent one volume book on the subject. Kagan's individual volumes on the war are even better - but obviously a much longer investment in time.

Fascinating period. I've had Soldier Kings from Avalanche Games on my shelf for years - maybe time to take a proper look at it.

This chap does beautiful coffee table sized illustrated versions of several Lovecraft tales - Dunwich Horror, Call of Cthulhu and Mountains of Madness. Just gorgeous books.
