"We cannot understand reality because it has been broken down and mixed up to the point of becoming meaningless. We sense that serious things are happening, but...they do not seem entirely true, we cannot understand or process them." allr.cat/a-strange-st...

eavesdropping at the charlotte airport: “chatgpt told me the wrong gate and now we have to walk to the other terminal!” I share this with no glee; just a useful concrete reminder that AI is garbage and should not be used as a search engine.

Two big events this weekend that both celebrate poetry, but not just poetry: also the community, the relationships, the personal and collective growth that arts spaces can cultivate. Links to both in the @racketmn.com piece:

not to be too on-the-nose but this sci-fi-themed reading will be on may-the-fourth - get tickets early:

“can i get into games writing in my late 30s” you can do anything you want at any time. but you cannot ever count on anyone giving you permission or money to do anything at any time, especially right now

Pope Francis led by example, centering his life and papacy on being a voice for the less fortunate. He inspired us all to better embody the teachings of Christ: love, compassion, and justice. Gwen and I are joining Catholics and Christians around the world in mourning his loss.

What I'm up to right now (besides melting down 🫠): news.davigray.com/p/no-april-f...

Good morning. Take a breath. We have a long way to go.

BREAKING: A federal judge finds Trump’s order banning transgender people from getting accurate passports is likely unconstitutional. The court ordered the State Department to allow correct gender markers for our clients as we continue to argue until this order is blocked for everyone.

Enby goals.

“Doge staffers...informed us of its plan to assign a...team to the [nonprofit] Vera Institute of Justice as part of its larger plan to assign Doge teams to ‘every institute or agency that has congressional monies appropriated to it’,” Vera said.... Each team = _$? www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

i think most white americans who have never been Policed don’t realize that you are always already a criminal. the second anyone with institutional power believes you to be, needs you to be, or wants you to be a criminal you are and always have been.

if you are a cis person it costs you nothing to just say today that you see & hear your trans sisters & brothers & others over in the UK today -- and around the world, too, knowing that rulings like today's ripple out in ugly ways.

This is a great book! Highly recommend.

Journal: thank you so much for your submission. Now, more than ever, the world needs your words Me: so you’re accepting it? Journal: lol no

1. The Department of Health and Human Services has launched a national "snitch form" to report gender affirming care providers. The last few times state Republicans did this, they were overloaded with memes and Bee Movie scripts. The latest from S. Baum. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Stop making those little AI image generator memes of yourself as a Barbie or a Ghibli character you are enriching evil companies and destroying the planet and this is like one of the easiest things you can just not do

"Often, it’s an example of passionate idealism that converts others. The performance of integrity is more influential than that of compromise. Rather than meet people where they are, you can locate yourself someplace they will eventually want to be." harpers.org/archive/2017...

The New Yorker has an investigative piece about people dying of malnutrition and dehydration in jails. I appreciate the author for not sugarcoating it: "hard to describe as anything other than a pattern of widespread torture of people with mental-health issues" www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

For the cis liberals: HRT literally changes your sex. My endorchrine system is female, my muscle mass and responses are female, my bone density and strength is female. By every metric you think is important to necessitate gender-based segregation in sports I am female.

When the US began to strip trans people of rights, revert documentation, move trans women to men's prisons, censor research, and move towards healthcare bans, most cis people posted things like "the government can't tell you who you are!" They think our biggest issue is validation, not actual harm.

TranstrĂśmer for #smallpoemsunday & @tomsnarsky.bsky.social

On a recent flight my seatmates learned I was a writer and asked my opinion on AI. They didn't understand genAI is based on work stolen from authors, and they DEFINITELY didn't know about the energy costs. Both shocked them. People just don't know.

I pray you’ll read my latest. We are being challenged as a nation and this is a test we must pass. open.substack.com/pub/sherrily...

what they said ⬇️

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but 2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but 3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So 4. Now the LLM code points to malware.

it’s a lot harder to treat trans people like a thought experiment when you see “trans people” is a collective abstraction for many individual trans persons—women, enbies, men—each singular, with interiority & interests. one of us fences. one swims. one throws & fires beautiful clay pots.

a lot of people have bad taste and don't care that AI art looks bad because they are not aware that it looks bad

"Cuddle mouse" 🥹 "Earth Wolf" is definitely "did a hamster write this" territory

I'm leading my Poetry Out Loud workshop/practicum again - next Tuesday (4/15) at the University of Minnesota Liberal Arts Engagement Hub. You can sign up at tinyurl.com/HubSpringWor....

More journalists need to talk about this the way Japanese articles do

Nikki created this reformatted version of "Some Actions that Are Not Protesting or Voting" and it looks great. Feel free to share. Thanks Nikki. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Zooey is doing WORK in Montana and teaching everyone several lessons: 1) You can stand on your values as a Democrat and not harm trans people. 2) Doing so can actually move hearts and minds in a traditionally conservative state. 3) There is value in having representation in our halls of power.

Criminalization is the primary way through which fascism advances its agenda — which is why we have to interrupt criminalization.

technically backing away from bad poetry ideas is a writing retreat

"When the dominant culture actively discourages creativity and community, it is on us to keep building and supporting spaces that cultivate them. When the people in power want us to be quiet, it is the most straightforward form of rebellion to refuse." @racketmn.com let me write about SLAM POETRY:

Gorgeous snapshot that's a little more relevant than we'd like. Savor "dystopia where we're out past midnight" by Jaiden Geolingo. Read it on our site: dishsoap-quarterly.com/4-8-25/dysto...

I hadn't read this before but it's very cool. Related: one of my favorite prompts for creative writing students: "Imagine performing—not at a slam or poetry reading, but at a rally. The crowd is already on your side. What 'work' can a poem still do there?" That 'work' question opens so many doors.

Prisons Must Fall 🌱 Happy Publication Day to this beautiful, hopeful book by @prisonculture.bsky.social and Jane Ball, illustrated by @ollycostello.bsky.social! 💐

On April 8, 1990, the first episode of TWIN PEAKS, "Pilot / Northwest Passage", was premiered. 35 years ago everything began to happen.

i need people to understand that asian grocery stores aren’t just a lifeline to asian americans: they’re also a source of fresh and affordable produce to low income non-asians who live in HCOL areas
